Jarron Jones will return for Bowl game

If he plays in the bowl game if definitely burns a year. If he doesn't play he can come back for his 5th and would still have a possibility I believe he could try to get a 6th.

Didn't Jarron Jones red-shirt his freshman year 2012 ? Couldn't he apply for a 6th year 2017 because of his injury ? Why would Kelly play him for one bowl game ? He certainly couldn't be in game shape and would it use up a year of eligibility ?

Jones Is going to need every bit of 2 years if he expects to have any chance at a pro career ? Nix is a an example .Nix should have stayed but he opted for the draft with a year of eligibility left .Somewhere ,Nix is on a taxi squad

Jarron redshirted his freshman year so he will be back next year no matter what if he plays this year or not. He will not want a sixth year. He will go pro.
This is unbelievably great news. I believe when we make the playoffs Jarron WILL join the rotation Not full time since he won't be in great shape but even part time would really help our defense.

This is GREAT news !!

Getting a sixth year is so rare that it would probably be more beneficial for Notre Dame to have him suit up for one game (or two games, God willing). If he is as good as we think he could be, he'd probably be gone after a 5th year anyway.

Nix has/had weight issues. Jones can come back for one more year. Shouldn't be compared with Nix at all.

Do you really think Jones was rated that high by the pros .? He might have been a low first rounder if it wasn't for the torn MCL in the 2016 draft ? But not playing a whole year sets that schedule behind. Have to see how he plays in 2016 . Look what the extra year did for Z. Martin and what bolting early didn't do for Nix ?

Jones might leave after the 2016 season , but if he left after the 2017 season, could or should be a very high first rounder.

You only can get a sixth year if you miss two years because of injuries. He sat out the first year for reasons other than injuries.

The ability to plug in one more big body to the interior of the line is huge, especially against running teams such as Alabama.

No....he has an ND degree......and you seem pretty butt hurt that Nix did not decide his future based on your Saturdays.

I do not know. Could someone explain the rules in this scenario
He gets a 5th year no matter what because he red-shirted his freshmen year.

The general rule is you get 5 years to play 4. He could get a 6th year potentially on a waiver if something were to happen next year and an injury caused him to miss most or all of next year. The 6th year is usually only granted if the player has missed significant/all time in 2 or more seasons due to injury. The belief is that Jones (who has already said he was coming back next year) only will come back next year and then go pro so the 6th year wont matter even if the NCAA would grant it. Him playing in the bowl game wont affect the 5th year status but would I believe preclude him from a possible 6th if anything were to happen next year.
