If so this could be devestating for the Irish DL.... By far the best run defender the Irish have. It's sooo frustrating that ND struggles to recruit top players along the DL and struggles even more to keep them healthy.

I'm hoping the injury isn't too serious, but I'm not holding my breath. Matuska and Tillery are going to have to grow up fast.

That was my fear too. Injuries were always going to happen, but we saw what happened to our battered DL last year in the 2nd half of the season... NG's are hard to find. Especially those that can read, write and get into ND.

Huge blow to the Irish's playoff chances. Good luck in your recovery Jarron!

Cage and Hayes will become much more important on that inside rotation as well. Was always going to be cautious with optimism RE Jones this season early on because the microfracture surgery is so hard to recover from. Bad luck here.

Tough blow for the defense. Apparently a very serious injury.

However: in 2015 there are no excuses re the "NO EXCUSES" as 348 says: "Win Now"

The Irish beat LSU without Jaron Jones so there is still hope for the Irish.

*** On the bright side--Jaron will probably come back next year for his 5th. Can you imagine Jerry Tillery after another year in the weight room and Jaron Jones on the field together? Two giants.

ND's depth on the interior of their defensive line is the best it has been in some time. None of those guys, however, is anywhere near as good as Jarron anyone's at this point. There are options including Matuska, Tillery, Hayes and Cage, all of whom I'm confident can play, but this a decidedly huge blow for the defense to overcome.

as the goal of playoff contention, ND does not enjoy that level of depth.
Who are the proven performers on the DL? Even Jones had not completed a full season.
The best player, from expectations is JT; hardly proven nor experienced.
Day has to prove he can stay on the field.
Matuska, Hayes and cage are as yet inexperienced and unproven.

So depth is actually questionable UNTIL those questions are answered. ND is not Purdue.

Terrible news. IIO is right of course, none of our replacements have shown they are Jones equal or better on the field. I suspect Tillery will separate himself from the others with time, but I would have preferred this as a two deep discussion behind Jones. I really feel badly for Jones and wish him a full recovery, and hope he is able to come back next year and have a healthy fifth.

Everything I am hearing is ACL tear.

Might end up with Rochell on the inside like they did in the bowl game.

Feel bad for the kid if he's out for the year. Good news for him he will be back. a full year to recover and playing with his brother next year. Our Dline depth is not exactly a strongpoint and it is going to hurt like hell not having JJ but......this opens the door for Matuska, Hayes, Tillery, Cage, and maybe even a surprise player like Tiasum. Somebody is going to need to step up. It's time for Hayes and Matuska to prove their salt. Also Jonathon Bonner had a solid year reds hurting and such bring see some solid PT. Rochelle will certainly continue to mix it up at DT while playing at end as well. I'm upset about the injury but I'm optimistic that 1 or 2 of the guys above can have a big year.

I cringe when people talk about Tillery being the next guy up possibly. I don't care who you are, a freshman interior defensive lineman is not ready to play 40+ high caliber snaps per game in college football. The guys across from him are just too strong, and much further along in their development. It's going to be a platoon at the position. I expect Matuska to get the Lion's share of the snaps on running downs, with Rochell bumping inside on pass downs to get Trumbetti and Okwara on the field at the same time.

IIO I agree JT alone won't be the answer. His size and speed combo will deffinetly work to his favor though. I'm counting on Matuska Hayes and Rochell to TCB with the first two named to make the biggest impact.

While not a popular sentiment I really hope there is some clarity of Ishaq soon. I know not the same position but he provides experienced depth along the line.

the honest truth is most of the 'next man' in candidates were recruited to provide backup depth; they were not prospects that were projected as #1's. JT, by virtue of size and athleticism is a potential star somewhere along the DL.
After that finding healthy capable bodies is the adventure.

This is the culmination of plan B.C recruiting along the DL for a few years preceeding. Things don't just happen.

This is awful news. Jones was vital.

Well, the best scenario is Ishaq being reinstated and playing consistently to his considerable potential as a starting DE and Rochelle moving inside, etc... Neither Ishaq development is likely, but the possibilities are there. Every year there are freshmen stars who make the transition to college and start and have impactful years on the DL, and seems to me that JT has this potential.

I read AT was taking reps at DT; if so, nuff said?

The DL situation was precarious at best; why fans kept saying otherwise is o_O
You are a much bigger douche bag than Bodi thinks you are

B + C recruiting along the D Line ? Is that right - btw you mentioned the goal of playoff contention - I thought you said we were a 8-4 program and everryone's expectations were to go 8-4 -- whats with the playoff talk jerk off ?

What is it like to be 75 yrs old and a stoned cold jerk off ? Is it hard ??

ND has SETTLED on "B" and "C" recruits a ton over the past 3 recruiting cycles, there is no denying that. Anybody who follows recruiting knows who ND's top targets were in each cycle, and with the exception of Jay Hayes and Jerry Tillery, over the past 3 years, all of those players are on other rosters... 2 years later and Eddie Vanderdoes is still hurting ND.

Re B,C
you need those players, for their properly identified roles; but you need guys that can be guys that start because they separate themselves from the group.

In 15, ND can still win because the offense is 'elite' and deep - ND will score 35+ most games and if the D gets 4 stops in a game then ND will probably win!

4 does not seem like much...but

For a dude that is so worried about players getting their respect and praise that he even criticized the board for not making a thread specially dedicated to a player committing it seems weird to use this thread to stand your ground on the argument when there is a thread dedicated to the depth chart situation.

What's with the question mark in the lead? Smh.

Move Hounshell back to D Line. He should give us a game or 2 before he gets injured again. Start Hounshell against Navy so somebody else doesn't get hurt. Play all freshman d lineman and play the kid from Arkansas. We don't always need quality just keep starters from getting hurt. The most important player is Malik Zaire. I would limit his running. If he gets hurt bye bye great season.
