It's time for ND to enter the Herman sweepstakes

Before this season i thought he was top 10 TBH

Just seems like he lost this team.

Kelly isn't going anywhere, dude. He just signed a new deal and won 10 games last year.

This team doesn't even know what it is! It's so young. If they're able to keep Kizer (everybody else returns) I think 2017 will be a very good season. I compare this season to 2014. Next year will be like 2016 with hopefully a better defense.

Herman would be a great hire. Urban guy. Proven winner at Division 1 level. He fits The Model. Hope ND goes after him hard. Like Diaco as well. Time will tell. Hope it doesn't take long. The sooner they make a move, the better. See Brady Hoke. Never let bad things drag on. End it.

Tom Herman is staying at Houston. If not, he'll have his choice between LSU or USC, but not Notre Dame. We have a HC this season and next. Repeating the same topic over and over won't make it happen or force the administration's hand. He's not coming to South Bend. Weis Jr has a better chance at coaching ND than Herman.

HRC08. See Bob Davies extension.

Hey man I'm "whatever" on this debate. Kelly's had 7 years. He's had but 2 good years and 4 so so years. 3 if we give him a pass for year 1. This is shaping up to his 5th so so year.

However, this is a very young team that lost a TON to the draft. Like we saw in 2014, young (or injured) teams take their lumps. I could see ND winning a similar amount of games next year like they did in 2015 after learning from the lumps of 2014.

I hope you're able to follow what I'm saying. Brian Kelly's a "bum" but he's our bum and atleast we know where we stand with him. Above average coach with the ability to be really good and one that graduates players and puts a fair share (I think only 4-5 teams have more) of players in the NFL.

If he can get some semblance of consistency from his defense, I think ND would be a consistent Top 7 program that challenges for a play off spot. They can score on anybody and Kelly deserves recognition there. It would help if he can land a young (I'll say it: black) dynamic defensive coordinator. Let's be honest: ND's defensive recruiting has not been good under Kelly.

I agree. If Tom Herman wants to come to Notre Dame, he's going to have to do what Brian Kelly did. Wait it out and see if NDs current staff lays an egg in 2017. Kelly could have gotten the Tennessee job in 2009 but instead, waited a year to see if Weis would fired at ND. His gamble worked out.

USC will be on the prowl and will be hard to beat for the next 'hot' coach.

They may go after Peterson.

Don't forget the Dudes "just up the road apiece" in Austin. If OU smokes them - a very likely happening next week - there will be plenty of"Orange- Bucks" out there for Herman.

Kelly may still be lucky enogh to win 6 or 7 games as well as a bowl, and then he will hang around unless he wants to leave ?
I never though that he was a top coach, no sound fundamentals, but he was and still is basically an 8. 4 type of coach.
This year, a slightly improved defense that can höid most teams under 30 points and A Kizer led offense that usually puts up 30 plus points, and Kelly may be just good enough to hang around.
However, if ND is not approaching other coaches right
now they simply do not want ND football to ever really be
a top team again.

yep: dead solid perfect.

but I think whether ND is looking or not, Kelly's agent has assessed the situation; potential depleated roster, poor defensive recruiting, no prospects for major bowl opportunity, and he will try his best to find a better option for his client.

Pers,
We can oniy hope that you are correct !

Ya think?
Too bad ND will not spend what it will take to get Herman. Every team not in the playoff will offer him a blank check.

ND will not offer anything to Herman because we have a HC. LSU doesn't. Houston has plenty of cabbage to give Herman what he wants. I remember a few years back BK was the hot commodity and these same Irish fans were begging the administration to hire him before OSU or anyone else did.

I thought he was going to be here for a long long time. How stupid was I?

At least 2 things suggest that you are likely (and maybe unfortunately) correct.

1) Kelly just signed a contract extension in January 2016

2) Unlike Charlie, Kelly is Swarbrick's hire - doubt JS wants to
admit to making a bad hire - assume JS will defend Kelly and
point to his 10-3 season (2015) and his trip to the NC Title game
in 2012 (even though he had Charlie's recruits and not his own
RKGs).

but the prospect of being a ND head coach for 8,9,10,11,12 years w/o a major bowl W is not something Kelly wants as his legacy.

You may be right - but due to Kelly's arrogance he will likely believe that if he remains at ND long enough he will be able to win a major bowl game.....eventually.

In dream land I guess.
