Multiple Indiana beaches have been shut down following a spill of wastewater containing hexavalent chromium, a highly toxic chemical linked to cancer. The United States Steel company reported the leak occurred on Tuesday due to equipment failure at its Portage, Indiana, plant, a lapse that “resulted in a chemical leak into the waterway that forced the shutdown of a drinking water intake along Lake Michigan and several nearby beaches,” the Northwest Indiana Timesexplained.

Beaches closed are within three miles of the accident. For those of us who grew up in Gary, East Chicago, Hammond, Michigan City, and Portage, the fine aromatic fragrance of the steel mills and refineries, dead alewives by the thousands taking a permanent sunbath on the beaches, and all around litter was a way of life in the 50s, 60s and 70s. We all just figured that was part of growing up in The Region. It was a trade off I guess. Those steel mills and refineries employed thousands of our Dads, grandpas, and even their kids, which meant it fed a lot of families.
We can't get enough dirty air water...Good for the Republiccans. Their looking out for us.....

Take them there. Let them see the garbage and remind where they will likely live with out a degree from ND or with/without one from a football factory. Also it will be a good opportunity for them to work together and help clean up the beaches for the local kids. Good bonding experience while doing some good within the community.
Don't shut it down but reduce it to 10 % of what it was. That should more than suffice.
If you're talking about shutting down the free gym membership billed to taxpayers by EPA employees, I say shut 'er down. Maybe somewhere in that abyss, someone can find several EPA employees doing the exact same job. Shut 'er down. I say let the coal miners and steel workers decide who in the EPA keeps their job and who is given walking papers.
