But one thing really stuck out to me during the SC game. Notre Dame's speed and explosiveness. I've actually gotten pretty accustomed to seeing ND being inferior in this department, especially to the likes of teams like USC. Notre Dame just really appeared to have better team speed, or at least equal speed and explosiveness on both sides of the ball.

Am I crazy? Has USC fallen in this regard? I realize this isn't the same USC of years past, but they still recruit well and still put track stars on the field.

Just curious to what others think as I don't recall it being mentioned.

CJ Prosise HS:
"won the long jump and 55-meter dash at Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association indoor state track and field championship in 2012 ... placed second in 100-meter dash at VISAA state outdoor track meet as a junior and senior ..."

Fuller, Hunter, Brown.....lightning quick..... Jones is going to be frightening as a TE..... move the pile QB.....

On offense we are really fast. Blazing fast.

On defense we have one A + player physically...but tackles poorly. We have a good d line.

Our offense has to just score at will and hope the other team makes a mistake or two as we don't stop anyone.

Make no mistake about it. USC is really really fast. Will Fuller fast. They will get good in a hurry when they get stabilized and find the right HC and staff. It amazes me. That program should be a perennial Top Ten program. But, it's all self inflicted and all the drama comes from within. Still, the fans and alumni just don't get it. They would do it all over again and worry about the consequences later. It's unbelievable.

The ND game will likely be the only game this year where Adoree Jackson is not the fastest guy on the field.

That game was definitely part track meet. It was like watching tennis. Fuller is a flat out burner....

PS I still think Sanders should be used more in the slot....

I guessing that the PSU qb wished he had fuller at wr Saturday night while they were getting beat up by OSU. funny thing is that I didn't think much of our irish getting fuller at the time after he backed out on his verbal to PSU

I was at the game so I did not hear the commentary until I skimmed through the game last night. I loved how the announcer spoke about how fast Adore Jackson was (did he say best athlete on the field?) and then had Fuller run away from him on the first TD (Fuller had to slow down slightly to catch the ball) and then run by him on his other big catch down the right sideline.

He's really explosive and sending him deep on our first shot versus southern cal was a huge message....

"back off...."

Early in the Jets Colts Super Bowl the Jets sent Maynard deep. Namath ripped one 60+ yards on a rope that just missed his fingertips. The message was loud and clear. Namath has a gun and we'll go over you...

Our message was Kizer has a gun and we have elite speed.

That's as great a response by a team as you'll ever see to another team scoring....

Fuller adds to a long list of Elite ND players from PA....

I was thinking watching the M vs. MSU game -- we are so much faster than these guys!

We've got to take care of business and "gel" for stanford....

We still need lots of help, but if we can smooth things out and start adding style points.....

long ways to go....

I think we're one of the fastest teams in the country on offense. Too bad we had to play Clemson in a driving rainstorm, because that neutralized our speed a bit. Let's just say I'd like to play them again on a dry field.

That's the one that got away.... They know they escaped.

I remember Herbstreit saying during the Clemson game, something like, "When was the last time you saw a ND team with this much speed?" So i dont think its just you.

I said it in another thread but applies here.. I was amazed how on several occasions Fuller blew right by Adoree Jackson. No disrespect to Jackson who is a dynamic player but that just shows how fast Fuller really is because there aren't many players in the country who can outrun Adoree

Well the WR knows where he is going and therefore has an advantage; when players are about equal in speed that is all the advantage necessary.

During pre season I discussed the defense and repeatedly offered the opinion that the offense had 'elite' potential.
I based my opinion on the speed of the WR's and the left side of the OL. As it turns out the offense is about as expected, even if I Had expected more from the speedy Fr. group.

Yea but the 1st TD pass was a simple post route and he just runs right past Jackson that was simple speed vs speed Jackson never closed the gap and maybe lost a 1/2 step.

The other I was thinking about was a corner route. Again, just speed vs speed.

There was a juke to turn inside - Jackson just took it enough to lose that step...gonna go n look now, to be certain.

There was but if you watch Jackson losses ground even after. Also, on the pass interference Fuller out runs him and Jackson is forced to interfere.

actually Fuller gave fake break to sideline route and boom - inside fly route! Once he got inside, he did get a step and a half on Jackson, then perfect throw by DK - he kept his stide - No chance for a defender. The initial juke got the step+; one thing sure, that Jackson could not recover or close.

Pretty much like the play Kei was beaten on; perfect throw too. Kei had much tighter coverage though: right on JuJu.

Don't waste time proving a point to perse - he will just make up stuff in his defense. Fuller ran past Jackson, caught the ball, and ran it into the endzone - Jackson was outclassed by Fuller's speed. Later in the game Fuller blew past Jackson and Jackson just tackled him resulting in a pass interference call by the refs. We all saw the same thing but perse saw a juke or fake or anything else he could possibly make up to make himself right in his own mind.

It didn't even look like Fuller's feet were touching the ground..... That was raw "haul ass" speed.....

did you go look at the film? nah: IG is an acronym for A-H

I remember saying before the Clemson game how the weather would help ND in terms of neutralizing the Clemson speed. Thats usually how the games go for ND as they are not the fastest team in the building. They've historically matched up well with BIG 10 teams, not so much against Pac 12, ACC or some SEC teams.

We are seeing guys on both sides of the ball, especially offense, that can and will run by most in the country.

If ND can clean up a few things and stay focused, I full expect them to run the table.

usually when they are talking speed they discuss the 'skill' positions. Offensively ND is in the top group in those terms. OL rarely engage in a foot race.
It is on defense where ND is not exceptional. And aside from Jaylon the LB crew (that sees the field) is average or in a case painfully slow.

I have watched that catch multiple times. Fuller slows down a bit to grab the ball, AJ gains a yard or so, and Fuller pulls away by two yards. You can be the only person on this board or any other board (for that matter) that thinks AJ is faster than Fuller - knock yourself out, dude. Not a single soul is buying into what you are dishing out.

See, there you go again. ND's defense (multiple players) chased Ronald Jones down from behind on his long run. And, Russell turned into a blanket on SC receivers (INT and tip for INT). One question for you: are you an SC fan or just an anti-ND fan?

Once Bilal,Coney and Barajas are ready ND is going to see a significant boost in LB speed.Schmidt is nowhere near as good as he was before injury. I actually like Grace better.
