I wanted to clear up some comments that both Bryan Driskell and I made on the message boards yesterday regarding Brian Kelly’s future at Notre Dame.

Let’s be clear: As far as we know, nothing has been decided and no announcement is pending regarding Kelly’s future. Having said that, multiple sources are telling us that a coaching change could well be in the works, and that Kelly could either be out or be given the opportunity to pursue other options. Our sources felt that both sides feel a change is needed after seven seasons.

Since no decision has been made at this point, there is no timetable for any sort of announcement. With Kelly expected to return to South Bend soon after the game against USC, instead of staying out West to recruit like he has in past seasons, it is likely that additional meetings between Kelly and those above him will take place.

Whether those meetings are about Kelly moving on, or what Kelly needs to do to get Notre Dame back on track as the head coach, remains to be seen. But our sources believe any further meetings will be about both parties figuring out a way to move on with dignity.

Latest On Elijah Hicks
The future commitment of six-foot, 185-pound La Mirada (Calif.) athlete Elijah Hicks is cloudy at best right now. The current Notre Dame commit for the 2017 recruiting class took an official visit to Michigan last weekend when the Wolverines took on Indiana. Going into the visit, the coach for Hicks said he was fully committed to Notre Dame and hinted the visit was nothing more than a vacation for Hicks and his family.

Coming out of the visit, a different tune is being sung. Hicks is said to have had an eye-opening visit to Michigan. A Michigan source has told Blueandgold.com that the Wolverine staff feels the visit went very well, and Hicks’ current commitment to Notre Dame seems to be 50/50 at best at this point.

Neither Hicks nor his coach have responded to questions for further comment regarding the visit.
