Head coach Mik Aoki's Notre Dame team took a huge step toward its first NCAA Tournament bid since 2006 with a three-game sweep of No. 20 North Carolina this weekend in its home finale.

Junior Kyle Richardson hit a walk-off homer on Sunday in its 8-7 victory, the fifth four-bagger in the game by the Irish, with Zak Kutsulis bashing two (for 4 RBI)and Cavan Biggio and Robert Youngdahl one apiece. Kyle Fiala extended his on-base streak to 40 games.

Notre Dame is now 33-18 overall and 15-12 in the ACC after finishing 9-21 in its conference debut last season. It will close out the regular season with a game Tuesday at Western Michigan, followed by a three-game weekend series at Boston College (Aoki's previous stop), which is in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 9-17 league mark. ND's 15-12 conference ledger is the fourth best in the 14-team league. The ACC Tournament is set for May 19-24.
