Natural Selection is something that should not be tampered with.

Also, when a thread is LOCKED, it should say LOCKED down below where you want to REPLY, but instead it says "Insufficient Posting Privileges".

I would like to contribute my thoughts on Jaylon Smith as a SAM versus WILL. I feel like I didn't get a chance to chime in due to "locked" threads. I wish to not take sides but simply espouse the pros and cons of each side of this debate. Jaylon at SAM is good in that he is playing in more space and a guy with his speed can have a bigger impact in that role, in theory at least. Also, teams will have a more difficult time running away from Jaylon when he is playing the FIELD side. We assume that more blitzing can be done from SAM simply because that is "how" tOSU did it last year, but that is not necessarily an absolute. Jaylon at SAM... when he blitzes from the SAM, it is much easier for the QB to see it coming and it easier overall for the blockers to see him coming. At WILL, blitzes by Jaylon can disguised more and it is harder to identify and see who is actually coming. There are plenty of blitz combinations where Jaylon at WILL could excel at. Personally, I don't think there is a definitive "best" position for Jaylon. I think each position has it's pros and cons. I think what would be ideal is for Jaylon to move around as much as possible, meaning playing both WILL and SAM. Clay Mathews played OLB in a 3-4 for years and is now being asked to move inside. He has been told that he will play both ILB and OLB this year to take "full" advantage of his unique skill set. I think Jaylon could benefit by being used in a similar fashion.
