Interesting read on The

Yes it is an interesting read, and it says all the right things, but for me, and probably most, it's just talk. I fir one want to stop the talking and have the results do the talking. It's been way to many years of mediocre football.
Agree. I think we'll know in a few days if we have a team that plays hard nosed physical fundamentally sound football. I get the controversy over Kelly's style and play calling, etc... but I've been much more frustrated over the lack of good fundamentals and physical play. Arm tackling and missed tackles, and poor blocking and tackling on ST, lack of the ability to get the necessary yards on short yardage critical plays, etc... Hope we see a complete reversal.

The problem wasn't just the defense, but a bigger issue I believe was the lack of being productive in the red zone.

It wasn't one , or the other that hurt the Irish. It was a combination of the two.

If the defense was better, and the red zone offense was bad I believe that we still could have had much better records
The same goes if the defense was bad, but the red zone offense was much better.

I think it'll take more than a couple weeks to see if the defense and the red zone offense have worked out their problems by mid-season we should all have a better understanding if both were fixed

I have spent the last week watching the last two seasons and it was clear a combination of the both in those two seasons doom the Irish from a playoff contention.

We I will say this comment was odd

"Mike Elko came to us from Wake Forest, where he established himself as one of the country’s top defensive coordinators"

Promising may be ....established no way.

His peers in the ACC made that statement during the Athlon interviews.

DIP...hard to disagree. No question the offense struggled in the red zone, something that has been a problem for the past two years in particular. The offense also struggled to put points on the board in the fourth qtr. The defense under BVG was terrible; and not good, but much improved after he was fired. I love watching key games from prior seasons, but I have no stomach for reliving last year's debacle. Don't know how you did it.

In every bad season there were bright spots and the bright spots will rise to the top much like the bright spots in 2003 in 2004 did in 2005.
There are some very very good players on this team that can move Notre Dame towards a playoff bid.

If one of those two problem areas are corrected a nine-win season is very possible if they both are corrected a playoff bid is very possible
