With another visitors weekend in the books, I’ve been working the phones to gather information on how things went with the top Notre Dame targets who made it to campus Friday and/or Saturday.
Both @Charleston Bowles and I will be working on stories on any of these recruits we can get on the phone — I have a Remington Moss story coming and am scheduled to talk to both the Smith twins in the next day do or so — but here’s what I can tell you already based on conversations with sources.
ICYMI: We have photos/tweets from the visitors in another thread.
2024 DE targets Jacob Smith and Jerod Smith
The Thursday-Friday visit with the Smith twins “went great.” Notre Dame has now hosted them for two unofficial visits already this year and expect to get them back on campus for an official visit. The Irish are battling some other schools, particularly Michigan, but are staying in the thick of it.
2024 OL targets Caleb Brewer and Kevin Heywood
With two offensive linemen already committed — Peter Jones and Anthonie Knapp — Notre Dame wants to keep evaluating 2024 offensive tackle options in person. So getting both Caleb Brewer and Kevin Heywood on campus was important. I’m told they both had a great time on their visits.
Rivals likes Heywood better, and I agree with our analysts. We’ll see if Notre Dame agrees in the long run. Heywood will be tough to pull away from Penn State.
2024 LB target Cole Sullivan
Sullivan spent two days on campus (Friday and Saturday) for his third visit to Notre Dame. Unsurprisingly, Notre Dame believes it has a really great chance of getting him.
An emerging trend this spring is how much Michigan is become a recruiting foe of the Irish after ND won a lot of battles in the 2023 cycle. The Wolverines are pushing hard for Sullivan as well. He’s high on Notre Dame’s linebacker wish list.
2024 CB target Kaleb Beasley
Things with the Tennessee commit “went really well.” So well that Notre Dame hopes to get Beasley back on campus for an official visit for the Ohio State game. We’ll see if that comes to fruition. The read here is that a flip of Beasley wouldn’t come soon. Rather, it’s expected to be a long push for him going into the early signing period if Notre Dame doesn’t add another cornerback before then.
2024 CB target Aaron Scott
I’m not hearing a lot of confidence about Notre Dame’s ability to land Scott for the third cornerback spot in the class. It was a “good” visit, but the Irish are battling not only in-state Ohio State but Michigan as well. Notre Dame will continue to plug away as it looks for Scott, Beasley or someone else to be the final cornerback in the class.
2024 DE target Darien Mayo
I haven’t heard much about how Mayo’s visit went, but one source felt Mayo was more of a defensive tackle recruit than defensive end. I can confirm after seeing him at Saturday’s practice that he’s a big dude.
2025 QB target Deuce Knight
Notre Dame put itself in a great position for Knight following his first visit to Notre Dame. The initial perception is that Notre Dame will be competing with Tennessee at the top for Knight. There’s a chance ND pushed into the lead after this weekend.
2025 S target Remington Moss
Notre Dame wouldn’t have offered Moss while he was on campus if the visit hadn’t gone so well. The Irish hope to get him back for a camp in the summer to see how high of a priority he becomes at the safety position.
