If he's staying, shouldn't they release something?

Given the circumstances? If I were Kelly and they don't say something to solidify my status soon, then I'd be pretty pissed about the effect on recruiting.

This situation is so screwed up. I don't know whether to think its all positioning for negotiations or if they really are just incompetent at such a high level.

What's screwed up? Didn't Jack say that BK was returning a little over a month ago? How many times does Jack have to satisfy the masses? BK is the HC until further notice.

Because there's been no announcement, I suspect ND and Kelly are looking for a way to part mutually and Swarbrick is also waiting for conference championship games to end, so he can start interviewing coaches, should Kelly not be retained.

I would agree about no obligation to satisfy the masses, but dontcha think other schools will point to the recent stories in USA Today and other outlets use that to recruit against ND? I do.

I do think that, but ND has direct contact with those recruits and can tell them exactly what is going on.

That's true. Good point. Although I wouldn't blame them if they were trying to unload Kelly. You can tell by the way he stands alone now on the sideline that the players don't really like him.

I'm not so sure players have ever liked him, but that's not required to be a successful college coach. It's nice to have a relationship with the head coach, but the important relationship is with the position coach.

An apology!

I heard Eric Hansen say tonight that BK will be looking for a DC who will and can recruit, unlike the previous DC who had little personality. All I know is what I hear from my most trusted source, Eric Hansen and the Sportsbeat radio show. Doesn't mean they will always get it right, but Eric and Darrin are insiders who lean heavily ND and seem to have knowledge about what's going on around ND football.

Press conference for keeping a coach? Press release for retaining a head coach. "This just in Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is returning next season after signing a 6 year deal last year." Sounds like a strange news update.

If I were AD and intent on keeping BK, I would've put out another strong statement affirming my decision after the season. There's too much negative energy around the program as it is, so I'd want to control the message and end the speculation.

But I'm not the AD. So what do I know?

Agreed. Seems like everyday there is new reports of negative press. Need to do a simple tweet reaffirming BK if he is staying. Hopefully not

Kelly needs to be fired now. Replacing him can wait but Kelly needs to be fired now. Jack already looks like a fool. His position can only get worse if Kelly stays.
