I so missed Lou Holtz smash mouth football. It took a 30 year hiatus. We had a year or two where we had explosive numbers because of a running quarterback (Wimbush) but even then there were also a ton of stuffs and we could not run the ball against any elite defenses. This year has been different. The physical play is the best since the Holtz era. The line has run blocked and pass blocked with equal efficiency. We rarely get stuffed. We are great in short yardage. And I love having multiple tight ends and a full back and just run over weaker teams. It was a formula that worked for most of the glory years of Notre Dame football and it's great to see it return.
