With the tough schedule the Irish have and the "good wins" they will pile up as the season goes on I am hoping for Georgia to lose two games--- 1 during the reg season and 1 in the SEC Championship game to Alabama. The Irish could get bumped out of the playoffs with a undefeated or a 1 loss Georgia team. And a 1 point loss to a 11 and 2 team is not going to hurt ND's resume as long as the Irish win out and go 11 and 1.
Good wins trump good losses.

*** Also I think the extra league championship game that the other teams have to play helps the Irish because it is one more week to put a loss on a potential playoff teams record.

*** IMO !! I would like to hear other opinions on this since we have a bye week.

You didn't mention one team in all this...
Alabama will be irrelevant because Auburn will win the Sec.

However this presents one problem for ND.A huge problem actually. Auburn loses to Georgia. But they beat Alabama. Auburn meets Georgia again in the sec title game and wins.

So now you've a one loss Georgia team who beat ND. Auburn will be taken...
The Big 12 champ will have two losses. They're out again
Pac 12 is a mess. I don't think that winner will have one or less loss. Maybe Washington though goes unbeaten. If so they're in.
The big ten... If Penn State runs the table they're in no question and probably the #1 overall seed.
Clemson wins out they're in guaranteed.

Now if some of the above doesn't happen but the sec unfolds like I described then how does the committee give ND a spot with Georgia winning the head to head and only one loss as well.

Scary thought.
TCU wins out.
Penn State wins out.
Clemson wins out.
Washington wins out.
Sec winner

I want to see a path to the playoff badly but right now I see too many obstacles even if we win out.

Hope everyone else loses and makes this one gigantic mess.

If BK just could have won that first ever big game in his career an undefeated ND team is a lock to get in.

It was my understanding that ultimately the committee is looking for the four best teams in college football. They said last year that the 13th game wasn't the deciding factor and neither was conference championship. I want to see what the committee does with a one loss ND team that beat USC, NC State, WF/ at home and Miami, Stanford on the road in their last 6 games. They also dominated Michigan State on the road by 20, beat 2 FBS teams by average score of 33 points and 2 p-5 teams by average score of 23 points, and loss to Georgia by 1 point. I want clarity on this question. Does ND get past over for a team with 1 or2 FCS opponents on it's schedule? It would be worth not posting until April 2nd.

All valid points.

Brian Kelly's luck it seems would be something like three undefeated teams at the end of the year and a one loss Georgia team who beat us head to head so they get in.

Tons of football left to play.

On a side note...
The sec is not what it once was. The top is good. The bottom three quarters of the of the conference is lousy. Which leads me to another point. Alabama played a bad FSU team way closer than needed Alabama just won a close game against an unranked Texas a&m.

While I'm not saying Bama is bad but their ass is getting way over kissed IMO. Beating Vandy by sixty is of no consequence to me and shouldn't be by anyone else. But seemingly the ESPN Bama love affair continues on.

Lots and lots of football remain.

P.s.

Why does BK make things so difficult. Had he just won that Georgia game we'd be in the driver seat but nnnnnoooooo

You deal the cards you have been given. Right now there are way too many teams to root against as you pointed out very well. right now I want the Irish to win out. If they get in the playoffs great if not get into the best bowl possible and win that also.

Why did our LT get left at the starting line on ND's last offensive play of the game? Why did an OL filled with future NFL linemen get dominated for most of the game? I must admit going to the locker room at halftime of the Ga game I said, "Fire the offensive game caller, wr coach, ol coach, and the qb coach." I was upset to say the least. I finally calmed down and felt sane enough to post. The lads fought hard to the bitter end. It's a football deal. Somebody was going to lose that wonderful game.

Unlikely situation as CFB averages approximately 1.5 undefeated teams per year. So, it seems unlikely that we'd have 4 undefeateds.

Have you watched Bama play this year? Aside from Clemson. They are the best team in the country hands down! Have'nt seen Washington play yet this year, but i have seen Clemson Bama Psu and OSU. Clearly Clemson and Bama are 1,2.

Can we play with these teams? Due to a 1 point very winnable game. I'd say yes.

The scary part about Bama is their offense. Pretty damn good this yr. The D is right where they normally are. Secondary being the weak link.

With Clemson they had literally no drop off after Watson left so there's that...

Bodi has a good point. UGA can run the schedule and if they lose a classic to Ala. as their only loss, the SEC might get 2 playoff slots. At this point the SEC, ACC and Big10 conferences look like good bets for a slot so the problem is UGA, Big12 and PAC12 all have to play themselves out. Conference championship games will be big factors for committee consideration.

I think the champs of the SEC and ACC and The Big are in the playoffs this year, and I think we are better served if Georgia is the SEC champ, with victories over Auburn and Alabama. I’ll be rooting like hell for the Big 12 champ to have two losses. Beating USC and Stanford and having one of them win the PAC 12 would be ideal. I don’t see many other alternative scenarios where we get selected. As I’ve said before, any scenario where two of the big five conference champs are out of the playoffs will cause a rethinking of the playoff selection process and pressure will mount to create the four super conferences that were the rage a few years ago, or change the playoff format to eight teams.

Ridiculous x100.

You're just as bad as the love affair ESPN has with them.

Please can you qualify them being sooooooo amazingly good, again?

The two games with which Bama on paper shouod have had a tougu game, they did in fact have a close game.

FSU is a bad football team this year. Close game until very late.
Texas A&m, Unranked, a very average so far team....close game. Onside kick ckose.

I echo again beating a very bad team 66-3 does nothing for me.

I'm not saying Bama is a bad football team but they're without a doubt very overrated this year.

Auburn wins the Iron Bowl. You write it down.

If ND wins out (which they won't with Kelly at the helm), they still will not make the playoffs...not a chance. It is not even worth debating anyway as Kelly will lose to USC, Stanford and NC State. 4-5 losses for the cockroaches to go into denial about,

Did you have Iowa St. over Oklahoma last Saturday?

Bodi, I get your thinking and your logic. I hope that what you've predicted comes true. However, if ND manages to run the table in a very difficult second half schedule, then I want every opponent to look as good as possible. It's unlikely, but an undefeated Georgia team that we (11-1) lost to by 1 point, looks better than an 11-2 or 10-2 Georgia team that we (11-1) lost to by 1 point. BUT...I am not on the committee (the ba*****s rejected my resume) and thus do not have a say.

It's so early, we have no idea how it will play out, but a 1 loss PAC 12 champ, 1 loss BIg Ten champ and 1 loss B12 champ certainly makes things easier for a 1 loss ND.

I believe the committee is by and of the big conferences.

First they will seed the best SEC and BeeOneGee teams. They are not reticent to place an 11-1 over a two loss champion if it is justified.

Then they take the best team from the other three p5s. So far the ACC champ has been mandatory.

Now for the final slot you have two conference champs and ND. One of them is likely to be unsuitable based on record. I think ND only goes if if there is a compelling reason, such as a convincing win over one of the playoff teams. Other than that the committee will find reasons to pick their own children and the entire world will ignore the facts and scream JOIN A CONFERENCE.

I am going to enjoy each game and the ND victories. It's not like we have any control over the games anyways.

Right now there are seven ND opponents in the Top 25. If ND runs the table and, let's say, five or six end the season in the Top 25 then, IMO, the committee selects ND.
