The run game sucked that night as we tried sloow developing runs plays and tried to go lateral with #33. Fast forward to Miami who has quick, agile guys who can run down plays and we tried the same sloow running plays.

As soon as they stuffed the run on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd series Long should've changed things up. Against MSU they were successful on quick passes, use some screens attempt the deep ball more. I'm very surprised Deon McIntosh never saw the field. However that is trademark BK. Never use your full arsenal during the big games. There comes a time when your bread and butter doesn't work and you have to change game plan.

Interesting because those same quick and agile Miami players had difficulty with Georgia Tech's running game

We really don’t know how much play calling and player selection (insertion) was on Long. Surely Kelly had some input. We just don’t know how much. Ten percent? Fifty percent? Seventy-five percent? Pikehead probably knows.

You're right but it's because they ran more power stuff (yes even small Navy). That's why I was so surprised ND didn't adjust or better yet know this from the beginning. Surely they had film of other teams that had some success. Even FSU almost won---and NC--- and GA Tech. No backside blocking whatsoever.

I don't recall us attempting a long pass in between Brown near miss in the endzone and Book entering the game. IMO there were too many short passes into close groups of defenders.
