How closely are QBs in the portal watching TB12?

Freeman said he looks “magnificent”. So he’s either a liar or TB will look like Caleb Williams. We will find out in a few hours.

I would like to think not, and that the Hartman deal is already done. The papers all signed, and the check has cleared, as they say.....

And of course that Sam Hartman has quite naturally been promised the job. Or that he has first right of refusal, or however and with whatever discretion that sort of arrangement is completed. But it's true though, if TB were to be an absolute superstar, it might make you think twice. I definitely don't think SH wants any part of that. Transferring to ND, which he does want, but then being 2nd string. I don't think he would sign up for that no pun intended.

If he is “magnificent”, I expect impressively beautiful, elaborate, or extravagant; striking. That would lead me to believe he’s magnificent. So perhaps he looks like a Heisman candidate or freeman is full of shit.

talent, skill, toughness? these are not the issues, it is that the kid is, or has been fragile! Portal QB’s also are keenly aware of that fact. One game is not necessarily going to answer that thinking.

Tyler Buchner is not scaring any other QBs away. He may scare off some WR, but QBs are not going to have an issue with him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I've been told.

I’d like to see him have a big game. He lost his junior year of high school to a knee injury. Lost his senior year of high school to a Covid shutdown. He has battled injuries his first two years of college, and lost most of his sophomore year at ND to a shoulder injury. That’s a really hard few sports years. Here’s hoping he stays healthy and has a big coming out party!

If he looks great does that impact a Hartman decision ?
Portal players are not promised the starting job.

No matter where Sam goes he will have to win the job.

Sam knows this. So it doesn’t matter how great or how bad TB looks in one game.

The QB job at ND is wide open for anyone’s taking.

I don't know how that actually works, of course. But I'm definitely thinking that's how it works, on a sliding scale of course. If you end up totally sucking, you're not going to start. Or you'll eventually be benched. And if you're not that great nor proven to begin with then naturally you're not going to be 'guaranteed' anything. Take Everett Golson vs Malik Zaire as far as their grad transfer years.....

But it's a buyer's market, and we're talking about Sam Hartman. So while naturally such an arrangement is going to be of the unwritten variety, and would be subject to change, I definitely would say, or surmise, that sought-after portal QBs are seeking out a guaranteed spot, or something close to that, and that covetous college coaches are willing to offer them that. Up to a point, up to that point.

So if TB tore it up in this bowl game, and continued to tear it up all throughout the offseason and spring practice, he could easily usurp SH's spot, regardless of any understanding between MF/Rees and SH. In which case I could see SH transferring out after one semester, and playing in 2023 for someone else. I don't think he wants to sit on the bench in any case, and I bet you he could find another QB-hungry team to play for over the summer if that contingency came to pass.....

Edit to add: I meant to say 'seller's market'. Which is typically how that idiom would go. Sometimes it's a buyer's market, but that wouldn't apply to this case....

Since you’re obviously there how do YOU think he looks ?
He looks marvelous. That’s all I have to go on. So I am expecting a marvelous performance. Such a word implies one of the best QBs in the country. We must have a future Heisman winner on our hands. I am stoked to see this.

100% agree no guarantees, but if TB12 tears it up, Sam has to recalculate his odds of being a Day 1 starter. No reason to come to ND unless he is reasonably certain he’ll start

Why would he be a liar ? If Buchner stinks up the place today that has no bearing on how he's looked on the practice field the last few weeks. That was the question he answered. Did Freeman say Buchner would be magnificent today ? Do you not understand the difference between practice and the actual games ?

Usually if you’re “magnificent” in practice you’re at least really good in a game.

There’s bad, fair, average, good, really good, and then magnificent.

Well, everyone seems to think that SH to ND is a fait accompli, and it's already a done deal, and it's only yet to be made public to the plebs.... And it was first leaked by high-placed media merchants because they were so certain of it, and that it really was already a downright accomplished fact, so they couldn't resist. Though of course we can't say for sure, and have to use our best judgement and otherwise wait and see...

But in spite of all that, I guess if you're bored enough, and perverse enough, you could manufacture some notion that TB who hasn't played all season and is coming off a slightly worrisome shoulder injury, is going to be so phenomenal, and his performance so redoubtable, that he will instantly transform ND's QB complexion, and on the eve of his public announcing for ND of arguably the top transfer QB in the portal, that SH will, perforce, do an abrupt about-face, and transfer to Florida, or to Wisky, or just about anywhere but ND. Because he wants no part of any QB duel with TB.

I guess that's ND fans for ya. Nice dream.....

It’s what Freeman is saying. I call BS.
