As we reported last week (link),
junior point guard Temple Gibbs Jr. will arrive with his mother and father "very late tonight" for his Irish official visit, he confirmed today.
Everything you need to know below…
Hometown/School: West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep
Rivals Rankings: Ranked as the No. 66 overall player nationally. Rivals does not make position rankings, but counting by order of the Rivals150, he’s the 14th highest ranked point guard in the country.
Measurables: Listed at 6-3, 185 pounds.
Other Schools in the Mix: Oklahoma, Georgetown, St. John’s.
Scoop: Was offered on Feb. 13 after head coach Mike Brey watched him go for 20 points, three rebounds and two assists against Irvington HS … followed Notre Dame closely in their ACC and NCAA tournament successes, and the mutual interest has snowballed since then … both Brey and Anthony Solomon watched Gibbs Jr. play for the New Jersey Playaz on Nike’s EYBL circuit over the April 11 weekend, then Brey and two assistants watched him over the April 25 weekend … According to his father, Oklahoma (where they officially visited over the April 18 weekend,) and Georgetown also had two coaches watching him over the April 11 weekend … His oldest brother Ashton was first-team All-Big East at Pittsburgh in 2010-11, and the middle brother Sterling was second-team All-Big East at Seton Hall this season … Sterling is transferring to a yet to be determined program as a fifth year, but according to Temple, only his mother and father are joining him on the visit this weekend.
Quote: "Everybody was into it, we were definitely rooting for them. It was fun because it's fun to see Coach Brey. He's so personable, he's a real down-to-earth guy, and that's always great to see. He can handle the success, and that's something I want to look for when I go to college. I know that's the type of leader I need to be looking up to for the next four years." — Gibbs Jr. on Notre Dame winning the ACC tournament.
