ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Notre Dame hockey program dropped a 3-0 decision to RIT Saturday evening at Blue Cross Arena.

The Irish found themselves down a man early after a trip was called at 1:26 of the opening stanza. RIT capitalized on the Notre Dame penalty in the waning seconds to take the 1-0 lead just 2:57 into play.

Just minutes later the Irish found themselves on the two-man advantage after a trip and too many men penalties were assessed to the Tigers. Despite four shots on goal during the five-on-three opportunity, the Irish could not convert and trailed by a tally halfway through the first period.

The Tigers took the 2-0 lead at 12:26 of the first after a shot out front beat Ryan Bischel blocker side.

Although Notre Dame fired a few more shots on goal before the end of the period, the Irish headed to the locker room down by two goals after 20 minutes of play.

The Irish came out with a vengeance in the second period, searching for that opening goal and peppering the Tigers’ net in shots. Halfway through the middle frame, the Irish led shots on goal by a 24-10 margin.

RIT took advantage of a turnover late in the period to extend their lead to 3-0, a score that would hold through the final horn.

Both teams continued to battle in the third period but the Irish were unable to break the Tigers’ netminding and skated to the 3-0 final.
