What's up guy's, earlier cgvr asked me about Derek Brown and what he was like in high school down in Merritt Island High in Florida. But I figured everyone here might want a snippet of it. Lets start in elementary school where this mammoth of a kid that I just met at Tropical Elementary School called Derek just after moving from Gainesville Fl, seemed already to be the cool kid. I remember being on the playground and Derek would bomb a red kickball about 1/2 a mile in the air with his massive leg literally 5 times further than anyone else...I said to myself this guy's a beast...and if I recall I was the ONLY guy to ever catch one of those bombs a half mile away...and yes I was proud. His mom would throw party's for his classmates and she was a class act just like his Dad. There is no question his parents were the reason his manners and what made him special were from them. So let's skip to High School, I'm pretty sure Derek didn't play his first year, I think he was a sophomore when he took up football at Merritt Island High School. 3 time State Champs under Gerald Odom.....Derek took up football pretty quickly in high school, I just remember this huge stride Derek had and he would literally eat up 10 yards in a couple leaps. He was a great student, He got along with everyone, never a bad word to say about him...and I had the honor to lend Derek my prom date so he could get a photo for his senior year after he got dumped just before the dance....I would bet you a million dollars she regrets that to this day....the girl that dumped him that is!
