Just reading a report from Bleacher Report with quotes from the various head coaches during the Golson tour. I found them interesting.

First the heavy hitters...

Alabama - No direct quote. Via a source "Alabama *would take* Golson, but skeptical SEC would grant waiver." Completely non committal. Hey if he wants to come our way we'd take but we doubt that'll happen. Ultimately has zero effect on the team.

Georgia - Direct comment from head coach Richt, "No comment" and elaborates "I don't make public comments on prospects." Again, completely non committal. Again, zero team effect. And shows a little wink towards the NCAA since it seems as if schools certainly can make comments about Golson the "prospect."

USCjr - "We are not pursuing him" per Spurrier. I find this interesting because it is his home town team and there was long rumors of him looking there. Curious if there was a back story to this or if Golson simply didn't like USCjr or the opportunities within. Team effect: Zero.

Okay, now first year head coach Jim McElwain - "...always looking to help... fill holes where needed. Him mentioning us is exciting." Rookie move. He just told his team they had a hole and were basically in need of him. If he chooses a team other than Florida there is a possible poor message sent here to the team.

And then of course Jimbo Fischer, who is probably fairly confident he was going to land his services, but also isn't the brightest guy at sound bytes. "We're negotiating." Pretty open ended. What could FSU be offering exactly? So many ways to read into that quote. Kind of akin to the Martez Wilson quote, "It wasn't about the money" or however that went. Regardless, it's a stupid thing to say even if Golson is to receive zero extra benefits by attending. Team effect: Ultimately net zero if they don't get him because Jimbo makes no indication they actually need him, even though it appears they do want him and likely will get him.

Anyway, just some thoughts that came to mind while reading that column...
