Have we had a better 2 year DL haul than what it seems we will have after tomorrow?

Ewell, Hinish and MaCollister have already committed to us.

The crystal balls on Wardlow and Amosa are overwelmingly for us.

Fingers crossed on getting all 5. It strikes me as a really well balanced class if we can get them especially when viewed with last years class.

Last year we got DHayes, Okwara, Kareem and Ade. Add those 5 to tomorrow's likely haul and we could be 2 deep at all the DL positions with player flexibility.

Kareem, Ade, MaCollister and Amosa are all possible SDEs.

Hinish and Ewell could be 1Ts.

Hinish, Amosa and Kareem could be 3Ts. Ade has even been mentioned there.

DHayes, Okwara and Wardlow are WDEs.

That would be a quality two year haul. Lots of depth and options so we are not relying on one guy for any position. Have we had a 9 player two year class like that?

I think 2011 and 2012 were pretty good D-line classes. If not for position changes, injuries, underacheiving, and transfers they would have been great. Tuitt, Lynch, Day, Okwara, Jones, Ishaq, Springman, Nikolas, Rabasa, and Hounshell were some of the players that came in as D-lineman in those classes.

Don't forget about 6'3" 231 pound Jamir Jones !! He will end up a defensive end I think and more athletic than his brother Jarron . So make that 10 !!!!!!!!!!

Jamir Jones was the surprise of last year's recruits in my opinion. He played exceptionally well, and better than those ranked above him, and I agree with Bodi. I think he has star potential if he builds on last year. Big things are rightly expected of Hayes, and I think Okrawa will surprise to the upside, but have my reservations about Kareem. These are all ends where we had the greatest need. If we end up with Amosa and Hinish and Ewell in this class, we will have closed with a very strong interior defensive lineup. We have recruited talented big kids on defense year after year, but we've done a piss poor job of developing these guys. My hope and expectation is that this is about to change big time for the better, as Elko and staff will develop these kids and play them in the best positions for their skill sets! Wardlow is the wild card. First he has to flip and commit later today, and then the coaches have their work cut out. The kids only played organized football for two years, and is a raw talent. At a minimum, He will be serviceable as a rotational player in a year or two; or staff will be successful in developing his potential which considerable. Low risk and huge upside, and hope he is Irish later today.

Are any of the freshmen and sophomore defensive linemen difference makers ? Or are they just serviceable ? Hayes, Kareem , Okwara , Ewell? How many will develop into top notch linemen?

This is ND. And the only comparison is to you rivalries. In light of that, ?
Considering the talent gap opening up between ND and it's primary rivals, it is reasonable to predict 9 losses combined 17-18 seasons. This is not your fathers ND!

Remember, the excitement was for Echols, Wade, St. Brown, Sarell, Phillips, Kaindoh, Smith, Epenesa, Wills, Browning, Garrett, Graham, Adebo,Beal, Black! You don't recruit there anymore: you don't play there anymore.

OK - so compare to your rivals - Stanford have a better class on D this year? Michigan State? Maybe USC - lots of three stars there?

Are people this negative about everything in their work and personal lives? What a beating they must be.
Sadly, it's called reality. Sometimes it helps understanding where you really are so you can improve and move forward. But, hey, why let reality get in the way of a good time.

Stanford is the school that seems to have our number in recruiting battles these days. They're looking for the same type of student-athlete.

I'm excited about the potential with the group we have. It'd be nice to get the last two on the board so they can build meaningful depth over the next few years.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^The idiot falsely claiming that he graduated from ND lecturing others about reality. What a complete joke.

yep;
Stanford has advantages: =>education, Palo Alto, NOT South Bend, they are now relevant and no Kelly.

But heck, the OP asks the question, but no one wants the real answer.
As the season gets closer, we start the 'play pretend' again. Ironic that the potential to land a pair of 3* decommits has the fans excited. How times have changed for ND fans.
Kelly wants you to get used to it; apparently some fans have!

You were trashing NDs recruiting when we had the #3 class in 2013.

Wasn't last year the year we should have seen the spoils of the number 3 class in 2013? Or is it...we got this next year guys.

Take it from any Cubs fan. Changes had to be made from top down to finally end the suffering. ND better get on board now or it's going to be a long 109 years.

Were you alive in 2015. We saw how good that class was when they were juniors. Even with a ton of injures we almost made the playoffs. You did not think Jaylon Smith or Will Fuller were any good. The talent was there Mr Purse junior.

I'll take three stars to develop on dl all day vs converting offensive linemen like Ty and Charlie did.

Stanford & USC, yes. Sparty, NO.

well, not sure about the 109 years but the next 5 Kelly years will be insufferable!
It will be the 'continuous' struggle against the average teams, and inevitable beatdowns vs the nationally contending teams. Used to it?

Another almost huh. Wait we looked real competitive against OSU to finish that year. You're a ****ing nitwit. I never said Jaylon and Fuller weren't good.

Pers is perpetually miserable. Don't take anything that he says seriously.....no one else does.

The injuries really did hurt a good ND team in 2015, but Vangarbage's defensive kept ND from being in the playoffs. How on earth is ND's defensive MVP in 2016 only able to play on special teams during his sophomore year? The biggest weakness on that team was the incredible lack of athleticism by its starting mike linebacker. But that's water under the bridge. Kelly blew probably his best chance at winning a National title in 2015, bc a bad defensive scheme and field turf. Notredame had much talent on that team as any other team country not named Alabama, LSU, and OSU.

As far as todays ND list, If I was a RU fan looking at todays result it would be outstanding; but for ND and ND expectations, today is really concerning ; especially when looking at the traditional rivals which now include FSU, I guess.

It's funny. Our 2 best recruits are at TE. Yeah, we are hurting for TE's. Get some damn CB's and DE's already.

I would say the obvious candidates are DHayes, Okwara, Kareem and Ewell who were all 4 star guys and DHayes may have been 5 at some point but his injuries and transfering knocked him down. Amosa (MTA) is horribly underrated I have read. He could be a terror at 3T or 1T. I believe all 5 are candidates to be top notch. We were so bad defensively last year that we unfortunately we burned a 5th year for Okwara and Kareem who both needed a year of armor. Heck, Okwara was only 228.

MaCollister, Wardlow, Ade and Hinish all strike me as 5 year guys. With them it is a matter of how they develop. I have read Hinish is probably the closest of this group to be in the rotation. Ade and Wardlow have the highest ceiling of them but are projects.

I like the two year haul. Good balance since all positions are covered for a DL rotation.
