Really nice pickup by Harry and the staff. Top 100, 4 star player, with a nice 6'4.5 frame that will fill how to about 310lbs before all is said and done. Highly coveted prospect with offers from the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn, etc, etc... Projects best at guard, but can play right tackle as well if need be. Very similar talent level as Alex Bars, only about an inch shorter.

Two questions?

First, I read he worked out at center at the opening. Is that an option at ND?

Second, they have been showing IMG games on ESPNU all week & last season he was ranked the #1 OG in the nation but dropped this year. Did something happen?

Sidenote: During an IMG game they were showing, Tony Jones got pulled in a close game in the 4th Q and replaced by a junior OLB at RB. Not a good look for Tony in that game. Hope it was just a bad day.

haven't seen film on him yet but all the recruiting services have him rated as one of the top six OGs in the nation and he has a very impressive offers list as Michigan, Michigan st and several other top programs wanted him. our irish are really taking it to penn st as were getting a lot of the elite kids right now from Pennsylvania under Kelly and staff

So in a couple years our OLine will be Nelson, Bars, Mustipher, Hoge, Eichenberg, Kraemer, Lugg, Hainsey. And possibly Willis & a few others?
It could be the '93 OLine again. Sweet.

Awesome commit! ND is also in good shape with Jedrick Willis and Trey Smith. Getting one or even both would make this O-Line class scary good. It's also a nice bonus to get a kid from the IMG Academy. Let's keep that pipeline going and maybe with a little luck Hainsey can get Beal and Kaindoh to flip to ND!

Go Irish!

i think Wills is much more likely than Smith. Dont get me wrong, Smith likes ND and we're def in it til the end there. But it sounds like right now posters on another site think he will stay in the SEC. Hope not, will be a stud, but if we get Wills to go w/ our current oline group that will be another outstanding class put together by HH. After this weekend i've gotten much more excited for Hainsey's commitment. watching him go at it after the whistle shows me he's got a nasty streak in him we need. I dont care if he's the #1, 2 or 6 Guard, he's gonna be a player.

I know everyone touts Bama & OSU up front, but if I'm not mistaken won't we have a line of all top 10 guys at their position too if we get Willis?

read this evening where he said that his one of his top goals outside of getting a great education was becoming a first round draft pick if things go right for him in south bend

Love landing the blue chip big boys.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, linemen are the life blood and foundation of any winning program.

This game is won in the trenches !!! Welcome to South Bend, young Mr. Hainsey !!

we get a highly rated OL guy to end the weekend then Friday we should be getting a top ten rated DT in Darnell Ewell from Virginia. you can't get enough great OL and DL guys

ND is definitely the favourite for Darnell Ewell. ND is recruiting at a high level right now heading into the quiet period for commitments (August). Now we just need the stff to lock down a legit edge rusher or two, and put the full court press on Tarik Black, Osiris St. Brown, Shaun Wade, Greg Johnson, Thomas Graham, Ambry Thomas, Chaz Ah You, and whoever they like the most at RB. With a class that will be comprised of 22-24 recruits (most likely), ND will be in a good spot with 16 likely committed heading into the season. With 6-8 spots left in the class, they can focus on a pool of about 20 elite recruits, with another 10 or so on the backburner as replacement options...

Give me....

4 star Darnell Ewell
4 star Jerron Cage
3 star Michael Young

And

1 S of Amari Carter, Chaz Ah You
1 OL of Jedrick Wills, Trey Smith, Foster Sarrell
1 CB of Shaun Wade, Thomas Graham, Salvon Ahmed, Ambry Thomas
1 WR of Osiris St, Brown, Tarik Black, , Hezekiah Jones, Greg Johnson
1 WDE of Josh Paschal, Josh Kaindoh, Hunter Echols
1 RB of Stephen Carr, Colin Wilson, Robert Burns
1-2 top players at one of these various positions that has not yet shown great interest in ND, but who will once the season gets started and official visits take place.

That would be a 25-26 man class, so I'm accounting for the fact that out of the 3 players I listed on their own, and the various groups of guys that I listed, ND will likely strikeout somewhere, and there is the potentially for another decommitment in the class as well (nobody in particular comes to mind here).

IIO, I expect it to go down something like that. WDE my be the toughest pull. For some reason, and i really hope i'm right, i dont think Kaindoh will end up at Maryland. I know its where he's from so it may stick due to that, but c'mon. You're a 5* Josh and its Maryland. But i do think Paschal is the most likely to pull to South Bend.

WR I think if Black hasnt committed to the coaches already he will. Seems like he's close w/ Holmes who will bring him along w/ him i expect. The question is, do we take another WR like St Brown if he wants to join big bro?

S I've been waiting to hear that Carter has committed, i thought i read at 1 point we were the heavy favorite.

Wills will be Irish by mid season i expect, its a 5* lineman where its basically us vs Kentucky. HH wins out here.

CB & RB I have no idea what to expect

You have to take St Brown don't you?
That makes older brother happy & helps get the third brother, right?

I pay little attention to stars. What I look for is who else is recruiting this guy and how hard are they trying. And what are their needs so you can evaluate how badly they want him.

When you have someone who is being actively recruited by a who's who of major college football powers that says a lot.

one or two coaches can make a mistake; when you have 8-10 of them after the same guy you can feel reasonably secure about his quality.

It's not a matter of ND not wanting to take St. Brown... They love him and want him badly. It's him right now that is looking around and really likes Stanford. It's an ND vs Stanford battle...

ND would take both Black and St. Brown and heartbeat. Both are fantastic players are top 150 type players... I personally would rank both of them among the top 12 receivers in the 2016 class, especially for ND's offense. They're ranked #16 and #14 respectively among wide receivers in 247's composite, but I've watched the film of all 13-14 guys ranked ahead of them and I can't find 13-14 better receivers then those two.

I'm predicting ND lands one of the two, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if they landed both... And I would take both in a heartbeat.

Well stated!

Personally I think we don't get either-----St Brown to Stanford and Black to Michigan.

Hope I'm wrong.

Could very well happen, but it's a long recruiting process and a lot changes once official visits happen and teams start winning and losing. Recruiting is fluid. One day it can look like you're going to reel in the best class in the country, the next it looks like you're going to get nobody.

that would hurt! but it would follow the patterns of the recent recruiting years; the July 'high' followed by a dose of down to earth reality!

Avoiding getting "Loyed", I expect in the end ND's class to be somewhere in the 12th position plus or minus 1. And folks, given the lack of available "fringe" benefits the staff can utilize that is damned good! ND is coupon clipping while guys like Mora are out there with purses for Rodeo Dr.

^ question for the Alums here and the traditionalists:

In order to more level the recruiting playing field, and considering that ND gave Kelly the EE capabilities and some administrative concessions, what if any are the chances and what would be the repurcussions, if ND granted Kelly with 3-5 ad hic scholarships to be used for circumstances like the 'Beals' or DRob's?
Would that be tantamount to "heresy" or 'freak out" the academias?
ND can't stand pat, or it will stand alone.

Outside of D-Rob, how many receivers has Mike Denbrock and Notre Dame truly whiffed on recently?.. Just last year ND managed to pull Javon Mckinley off the West Coast despite constant rumblings that distance would be a factor. Will Fuller was a flip from PSU and although he turned out to be better than a lot of people expected, the staff loved him and went and got "their guy". Myles Boykin "hated" (his words) ND and it was the persistence of the staff and multiple visits that changed his mind. EQ had lots of options to stay on the West Coast and a lot of recruitniks thought that he may eventually do that. ND's staff stayed the course and landed him late in the process.

In terms of both St. Brown and Black, later is better for Notre Dame. If the Irish have an excellent season, and if EQ plays well given the tremendous opportunity before him, I think they'll get at lest one of St. Brown and Black, or maybe both.

I never worry about wide receiver. ND recruits plenty of depth at the position and has arguably the finest WR coach in the country looking after the group's development.

There is a substantial difference between, for example, what happened with linebackers at the end of the 2016 recruiting cycle and what we've seen out of WR recruiting.

Of course they all look great on the Highlight Tapes but Michael Young to me anyway looked just fine------would take him in a heartbeat.

We have let plenty of "academically challenged" athletes in. We have also allowed players with troubled pasts in too. There is plenty of room to operate. That said, our recruiting rankings dwarf our season end rankings because the portly one stinks.
We underperform year in and year out. When given the chance to "Wake up the echoes" wimpie gags..... Lastly, do not discount the major advantages ND has on the recruiting trail... What was the 8th dwarf's recruiting rank after appearing in the nc game? Winning big games gets folks attention.... Our record with our recruiting classes is unforgivable....

Don't forget National TV every week. With all these advantages, logic would dictate that we are in the top 5 of recruiting each year. But it is worse. We have better classes than Stanford and they continue to beat us down. These "diehard" idiots come up with the best excuses. Injuries, recruiting, etc. Which one is it if the coach is infallible.

black will be irish TDirish27 as most insiders are saying he will follow his teammate cj to south bend and most Michigan fans will say they dodged a bullet not getting him or that they passed on him like they have so many times in the past with recruits that there coaches wanted
