Guess who made # 1 today?

Don't understand how Charlie Weis was the worst deal .Looking at the 70 and 80 million dollar deals some basketball players received ; what was the total payout by ND ?

I was literally logging in to post the same topic!

If there was ever any question about ESPN and it's bias against ND, this should put that to bed. First off, they don't even know the dollar amounts. It's all guesswork and conjecture. Second, they title his section as Notre Dame and $19M, but clearly they are adding the $5M from Kansas to get that total. Totally misleading.

But the real head scratcher is putting him at #1. How is paying approximately $2.5M a year (again totally estimated) for 6 years to buy out a contract worse than paying Bonilla $29.8M over 35 YEARS? Or $62M dead money to Arenas? Or $68M dead money to Hamilton??? This is 100% trolling on the part of Revell. Seems so out of character for him. I almost wonder if ESPN forced him to rank ND #1. We are the only real game this weekend, and Gameday is there - again. This certainly will be a talking point. seems like they couldn't resist one last chance to twist the knife before Weis' final buyout this year.

Schmucks.

It just goes to show the relevance of ND. If you want 'clicks' do you say "In honor of Arenas/Hamilton/etc." or do you say "In honor of Charlie Weis and Notre Dame"? You see there are two types of people, those that love ND and those that love to hate ND - love sells!

Bingo. ND, the Yankees and a handful of others are the biggest draws in sports.....

Cowboys at 4 billion plus and sold out every game. ESPN is pathetic. I never watch anything on that network but actual games. They are the CNN and MSNBS of sports.

I'll watch the ND highlights. I DVR the college football final/sportscenter and fast forward....

You are correct about the franchise. It's been down hill for some time.

ESPN was unique and awesome for sports lovers when it hit the air waves and grew. It was such a great departure from being limited to weak local news 3 minute sports reports at 10PM (I'm from Chicago) and next day newspapers that didn't have pacific, and some times central and mountain time results. My favorite part of leaving my dorm and moving to Campus View was ESPN access. When they introduced the "Deuce" around 94'ish and attempted to be "cool" and later hip-hop", they progressively lost my interest. Like others have posted, I'll watch games of interest on ESPN, but I don't think I've watched Sportscenter in 5 years. I have, however, caught bits and pieces of their talk shows, and I weep for anyone who enjoys Jemele Hill, Skip Bayless. Stephen A Smith, Woody Paige, Tony Realli, and Kate Fagan.

ESPN's playing the "click" game and Irish fans love reading anything Irish.

Yes, calling CW grade school names over two threads would prove anyone's love for ND.

I love my Alma mater. That doesn't make weis any less of a fatso. The best is when he had a gastro attack at a recruit's house..... funny stuff.
Picture Leslie Nielsen wearing the microphone while whizzing. weis sounded like an agonized elephant that had eaten 600 pounds of white castle and chased it with 50 gallons of magnesium citrate.

Sweet Deal. He is possibly the worst head coach ever in history of college football. How bad you have to be to be to get fired in September from Kansas (a basketball school).

Even Tyrone (.58%) and Bob Davie (.58%) were better than him and not just in winning percentage (.56%) but also in terms of salary which was far shorter of what Charlie got paid.

Pretty good gig for a guy who was never a head coach until some dummy @ ND was fooled by his big talk. Can't believe that Kaunas bought his BS also. In his first year he went 1-11 @ Kansas. do you even need a coach to get just 1 win?

I'm sorry, but ND more than got their mileage out of the Fupa. He may have flopped in terms of player development and record, but he brought the swagger back to the program. Recruits cared about ND again because of his efforts, and that definitely helped turn the ship around.

In fairness to Weis getting hired. someone screwed the pooch big time in thinking Urban was coming and when he didnt we kinda didnt have a good back up plan. Plus w/ ND behind the times at the time alot of possible candidates werent interested if i remember right. We have to remember that before CW there was no early enrolling at ND. Plus CW tried like crazy to get a training table for the team, something that didnt get implemented until BK got here. Dont get me wrong, Weis wasnt good, but he was able to drag ND into the 21st century for recruiting and was able to get some talent here again. 1 more year under Willingham and the '07 season would've been even worse. After back to back 30something rated classes, it would've been brutal to see that year if all the freshmen that played werent at least highly touted.

And as far as Kansas "falling for him". I doubt they fell for it, but they are a terrible situation, outside of 1 year 10 years ago they have been god aweful, who else are they going to get? I think they just took their chances and hired him for name recognition if nothing else.

Looking back at Weis' first year, my primary thought is what an amazing QB coach Cutcliffe was.

Give it a rest. At what point does does a grown man stop thinking "Fat Jokes" are funny? You sound stupid.

Is this a Joke?

0-5 against USC
He had somewhere around 15 blowout losses
worst season in ND history 3-9
lowest winning % since Gerry Faust

That's some swag.

It was among the dumbest decisions ever made, for sure. However, people tend to forget that the BCS games we particpated in under Weis largely paid for Weis' payout. Recall that BCS payouts to ND at that time were in the $17-$19M range.
yeah , but nobody likes to break even.

You are a Notre Dame grad? That's what you are implying?

The 2 recruiting classes in 2004 and 2005 were the 2 worst classes by a large margin. I don't care where they were ranked, they should of been ranked in the 80's or 90's. MAC schools had better recruiting classes. Even a good coach wouldn't have done much better than 5-7 or 6-6 in 2007. 2008 and 2009 should have been 8 or 9 win seasons, but at least Weis left the program better off than when he arrived.

How you even know this ...I don't want to know how you know that. Bringing that up is a bit immature, no? That really is no different than suggesting Kelly and the leprechaun could swap and would anyone notice? Poking fun at people's physical issues in jest is one thing but bringing up an incident ...I'm sure a scary one for him and laughing about it is pretty classless and childish.

Yes. Guys who constantly, constantly have to make fun of other people, are usually doing so, to mask their own shortcomings. CGVR certainly falls into that category.

It's a true story. It matters little to me whether you find it humorous or not.

Let me repeat so you may take additional umbrage:

Have fun trying to point out a falsehood.

A falsehood? Nobody is fact checking you nor would any care.
The mere fact you point out a short coming of that person is one thing and then top it off laughing at an incident that happened, I'm sure was very scary for that person, is beyond childish. It's classless.
You either graduated so long ago you are losing your mind, or you never really graduated in the first place because of lacking a mind.

Yeah, nobody cares. That's why you took time to reply. weis having diarrhea at a recruits house is scary alright and yes, it was classless just like him....
Thanks for the chuckles.

The actual immature content of his "material" is one huge red flag that he is not an actual ND graduate. If he is, what an embarrassment. This "ND graduate" graduate would never approach CW and spew out this stuff in person. There is not one single person who reads this message board actually believes he would. Not one.

C'mon. Give it up. You know that you sound like an idiot. You consistently come on the board and make a complete jack-ass of yourself.

Don't believe Cutcliffe ever stepped foot on ND's campus.

Didn't he reject the job offer?

David Cutcliffe was Assistant Head Coach and QB coach in 2005 (1st year of Charlie @ND) before he had some heart issues. He definitely coached for a year and then left to take care of his health.

I still believe he was 100% responsible for the great stats this year. Made Weis look great, and probably landed Jimmy C with that brief stay.
