Greg was found shot shot last night and is listed in critical condition. Greg now plays for UAB.

Prayers. I've lived and coached here forever. My best advice to kids who are from "the neighborhood" and have the opportunity to leave...is very simple.

Go and stay gone!! Find a coach or family and spend the summer and holidays with them. Have friends and family come see you at school. I've attended 9 funerals from shootings alone. So sick of the waste!!!

Was just there visiting......many areas very nice....others not. Put the real criminals behind bars. Hope he recovers!

Apparently the reports of Greg's death are wrong. He's still fighting for his life. Let's pray he continues the fight and wins.

This is terrible. Just plain terrible. I don't know how else to express this tragedy. Prayers and strength to Greg's loved ones.

Ironically he was taken to St. Mary's medical center. Pray for a miracle. I am sure he is in the right hands.

USA Today and Deadspin both reported in the last 30 minutes that he as died.

I see lots of reports of his death, but then just saw where a half hour ago someone claims the local police said he is still alive on Twitter.

There are reporters there tweeting he's still alive in critical condition. Hope he keeps fighting, prayers to you GB.

Wow! My prayers go out to Greg and his family. Phenomenal potential and to see something like this happen is just tragic. Seemingly he was trying to find his way in life and UAB was to be a fresh start.

It is sad really..he had so much potential and as any young person knows there are so many choices out there and so may roads that lead in the wrong direction. I truly pray for his family as I do my fellow Canadians in Alberta / Fort McMurray area that God will watch over them.

Notre Dame is a special place as all of us that been there know. I wish Greg had stayed at ND and stayed away from the violence of south Florida. I was there in March....at the South Port Raw Bar in Lauderdale where Greg would sometimes visit and I know the people in South Florida only wanted the best for him.

Coached against the kid 2 years (unsuccessfully) he seemed like a nice kid and did not showboat or play with any "attitude". Even though he could have because he was a man among boys most weeks.

The gravitational pull of these neighborhoods is something that can't be explained. NOTHING good comes of kids who come back home to "visit".

You literally have 5 star recruit NFL caliber HS athletes running around the streets of Dade, Broward and PB County. These kids are jealous, they are pissed off the blew their shot and above all they are dangerous because they feel life is hopeless. These kids don't care about consequences, whether it be jail or death.

I don't know what happened to Greg but this is an all to familiar story down here.

The best I ever saw. I've coached or coached against in excess of 30 players who went on to play in the NFL. This kid was the best. After a summer of NOT lifting weights, running or attention mandatory workouts. This kid showed up out of shape and ran a legit 4.4. Later in a game vs Vero Bch he ran by Zeke Motta like Zeke was a stop sign. I thought maybe Zeke couldn't play. The next week he did the same thing to Matt Elam All American at UF and 1st round draft pick. Then a couple of weeks later he put a move on Janoris Jenkins NFL Pro Bowl corner that left him paralyzed with his jock on the ground. The U was begging him to commit.

James decided to rob a young couple outside a sushi restaurant before his SR year and has been arrested many more times since.

This is the kind of guy that awaits Greg Bryant, Tevon Coney or Darren Studstill when they visit. It's a nightmare and a tragedy waiting to happen.

I hope what is being reported is not the case. Don't know his personal life but a great player at one time. Must agree with Floridairish. The draw of the 'hood is addictive for these young guys. Coming from Chicago, see it all the time. As an aside, January before last I was in Delray Beach on Atlantic Ave. Was with a bunch of guys who appeared to be locals. Everyone was coming up to him. I pray for the best.

I think the NCAA needs to start disallowing transfers when the student athlete is being disciplined by any university. ND tried to rehabilitate him but it was too easy for Greg to leave. Greg's father wanted him to stay and so did Kelly. Bryant struggled academically but missing a year and staying on course to graduate doesn't seem like it was such a bad idea now. Any student who either does not perform up to expectations in the classroom or is cited for a legal violation should be prevented from playing sports at any school until they have shown some kind of willingness or competence in correcting their mistakes. This is a tragedy that could happen anywhere. I wouldn't single out the Miami area.
