Great read that pretty much sums up why the Big Man Failed

That's funny, and I guess it explains why people like Lou Holtz and Bobby Bowden were failures because they had lots of assistants go off to become head coaches too. Oh, wait....

I'm starting to assume he didn't have his New England "scouting staff" with him

And this is important in 2015 why? I'm just not getting the revisits back to TW, CW, and TR. None of this matters now. I didn't hear anyone complain about the Weis hire. In fact, fans were pumped on landing a successful Patriots OC who had the rings even though not many had even heard of the guy. Fans defended his Jersey attitude and felt that this offense was going to have a real schematic advantage. No one deny it. Then there was "Pass Right", the '05 USC game, and even him speaking out publically against the firing of the great Tony Roberts. Fans noticed and they loved it. No one deny it. His players graduated. He is a Domer. No CW, probably no Manti. And now, six years after he left, unimportant drivel about CW comes out as front page news. Kansas has had three winning seasons in the last twenty years. The writer forgot to mention that part. As a fan, I have put TW, CW, TR, and EG in my rear view mirror. No grudges. No hard feelings. No blame. I'm good like that.

Supposedly Parcells knew he was going to be a crappy head coach. Some guys just aren't cut out to be the top dog.

Yet we have some still on here making excuses or chirping about him being a great developer of QB's. I'm guessing Tom Brady doesn't miss him very much? The Tuna knew in advance what ND and Kansas found out. Remove Tuna, Belichick and Tom Brady, And this guy was the most overrated and over hyped coach in College Football history. Unfortunately it cost ND and Kansas millions of dollars to figure that out

I am involved at one of the great coaching mecca's in college basketball . Our coaches over the last 50 yrs would not have even hinted at what Weis stated re his assistants . First off they were all successful head coaches and didn't need to make an excuse for anything , one is in the hall of fame . Blaming assistants for your failure ..how bush league . Clausen - Floyd- Tate - Rudolph - Allen and 3-9 - u kiddin me ???

Weis' work re developing offensive lineman was horrific . re schematic advantages - Kelly stated all through the summer that it is culture over scheme . Last week he was quoted as saying that the success of whatever a coach runs is dependent on the talent he has. He inferred that Tenuto can draw up whatever he wants defensively tomorrow but Tenuto and every other coach in America is dependent on talented players to pull it off .

BTW I never understood how someone 425lbs could look a high level athlete in the eye re ANYTHING nonetheless trying to be a motivating figure athletically for that individual .

Weis is a fat mouth egotistical loser who bs'd his way to millions. He is a fraud of the highest order For those who support him as an "ND guy" that is your choice

He turned in the worst season in modern history and is an arrogant pompous ass I have personal knowledge of how a lot of his players could not stand the guy Now, given that Leahy was never the most loved coach during his tenure because he was a hard butt, that is not a big deal But it is a big deal post playing time, cause those Leahy haters came to love their former coach with maturity Weis' lads still cannot stomach the man

And for those questioning the purpose and appropriateness of this thread? He was an ND coach He failed He is fair game for discussion like anyone else in ND history And the article is timely so I shared it Deal with it, Weis is a sham

Kansas has found out that a lot of guys can't coach. You guys are in big time denial about CWs coaching career at ND. You can try and deny but it won't work. It's easy to go after the guy after the fact. Not one of you said word one about his hiring at the time. Do not try and white wash the facts at the time of his hiring by building a case against him now. Every single one of you were all in at the time. Every one. You loved the bravado. You loved the rings. You loved the fact that he coached Tom Brady. You loved all this stuff and now you guys are going to try and revise history by pretending you weren't all in. It is incredibly easy, but not very noteworthy, to trash anyone after the fact. That includes TW, CW, TR, and EG. The Texas win cannot even be enjoyed for a few days before all this negative rubbish comes prancing along.

Many people loved The Reverend Jim Jones too. Then they got to know the real Jimmie.

I agree. ND should honor him with an all you can eat buffet.

Jack

You have always wanted to have a Coke and sing on top of the hill

You are a good guy I don't think its fair to criticize the fan base for initial support for a new coach like Weis Everyone wants a new coach to succeed In short order, even after his first year, many of us recognized all was not the whole enchilada we were hoping for

Many of us can excuse a lot But Weis was arrogant and history has proved he was in over his head yet in this most recent article he puts his assistants under a bus? Guy is a loser Hiring him and extending his contract a mistake

When an article olike this one comes out, with Weis providing sound bites that displace blame for his failings, he is fair game. Keep your mouth shut and the fan base will not crucify you Open your trap and deal with the wrath

I hope MZ has a good game Saturday because the board of experts will turn on him by this time tomorrow. Fat jokes on an anonymous free message board. That is fresh. Never been done before. Edgy. Solid gold.

I am blaming the board because this stuff is six years after the fact. This 2015 season can be something special, starting with a terrific home opener against Texas, and here is the fan base chirping the same old song about a coach who has been gone for years. What is the writer's end game here? Rehash stuff that happened years ago? Why? Maybe the guy should do some digging on Devore, Brennan, Faust, or even Kuharich. There has got to be some juicy stuff somewhere with those guys. I'm not happy about the loss to Cuse either but CW did give us some good times also. Most in this thread have a short memory. Sooner or later TR will come into play, then EG and it will start all over again. In my world, I am still celebrating the Texas win and I am nervous as hell about Virginia.

Jack, I am with you Excited about this season But come on, two articles in the past day have been about coaches who are blaming something else for their failings - one on Charlie, and one on Mack Brown. The writer is not dredging anything up, the writer is reporting comments these 2 coaches made That is news That is worthy of discussion here. I get where you are coming from, but let's take the " red practice jersey" off Weis as some hits are acceptable given his remarks.

Now GO IRISH Neither rain nor ... will keep us from a W

Who the hell is everyone? Weis took ND for millions of $$$$'s and he has never been man enough to take responsibility for setting ND back years. He throws others under the bus but it's not ok now to blast the man, the same man who blasted ND on his way out the door? I can accept he did a piss poor job and move on. Too bad CW can do the same and starts playing the blame game. As far as I am concerned it is open season on fat Charlie.

It is true CW failed miserably
It is also true CW developed two QBs in to very high draft choices.
The ND administration screwed the pouch by believing coach Meyer was going to accept the position. it isn't stealing if they give it to you.

Let me ask you florida if the tuna did know and ND didn't do their job by researching who do you blame. Would you give the money back?

You can not delete those names (tun Belichick, Brady) no more than CW can erase the bad seasons he had at ND.

Coach Weis has three Super Bowl rings, and a resume to get him thru the door, and through he fail especially in the admin field he did start bringing top recruits to ND again, and develop QBs. When will coach Kelly develop a QB? Maybe ND isn't Cincinnati, and their powder puff schedule. One more thing If EG was bad why did it take the second half of the last game for MZ to get real PT?

When its all said and done ND put themselves in this position , coach Weis is getting paid and you can bitch about it til the cows come home

I love the satire. Keep it coming.

As I read I ask myself.....was this really worth $100?!? within 10 posts every thread gets blown straight to hell in a handbasket lol

But who am I kidding, this board is solid gold......every day someone is trying to polish or unpolish a turd.

So, we all agree.........1) CW did some good things while at ND, 2) no one can win at Kansas so we can take that off the table of "blame Charlie", 3) we all would have taken the money and kept it on our way out, 4) we all were impressed with Charlie's resume when hired, 5) we all loved Manti and JC, 6) "Pass Right and "Hannah and Friends" made us proud, 7) CW didn't win enough games like many other ND coaches from the past, 8) this all happened years ago and has absolutely no affect on us as fans, our program, our 2015 season, and our game today with Virginia and 9) the writer was trying desperately to create a "gotcha" piece. See, we all can agree and now it's time to focus on an all important game two. No letdowns. No injuries.

Just wow. CW blaming others. Hilarious.

Look in the mirror big boy.....that is why ND became average. You and only you.

CW put all eggs in the basket of 4-5players every year. He may have landed the best at a handful of positions but ....earth to CW....
They do play defense at this level son.

He recruited on defense as an after thought. More of a pain in the ass than anything. He loved his little offense and while very tough to defend if executed properly....defensively he could care less. Yes I know he got teo, but again one player a defense doesn't make. Zbikowski was great but not enough of his kind.
We couldn't stop anyone. He didn't care. Oblivious because his offense is the greatest thing ever. Just ask Tommy he would say. WTFE.
Kelly might bump his head on play calling but he hustled recruiting both sides of the ball.

I don't think Weis actually knows why he wasn't successful at Notre Dame. If he had figured that out he'd be talking about something else.

Not average - putrid

Some jerk off is still trying to mention Brian Kelly's alleged shortcomings as it relates to Charlie Weis. Brian Kelly has won 70% of his games, 3 Bowls, an undefeated regular season and a berth in the NCG. All while cleaning up the mess fatso left behind.

If you mention Brian Kelly and Charlie Weis in the same sentence you're truly an ass hat.
