Great Irish hits !! Viewer discretion advised !!

the david gardner hit was a legal hit as he was taking off to intercept the defender who intercepted his pass but Michigan fans have to be cry babies when you bring it up and tell you how bad of an illegal hit it was even though they really know it wasn't. they wouldn't complain one bit if they did it to our qb

Max Redfield lays the oak 2x4 lumber on David Gardner at the end of the 2014 Michigan game. He was flagged on the play; but it looked like a solid hit to me. Let's have more of that lumber in 2016 Max. Play with bad intentions in 2016 Irish defense and Go Irish.

Video?

Best hit I've ever seen from an ND player was Chinedum Ndukwe on Calvin Johnson... Loved the way Nedu punished guys over the middle of the field, but this was him at his best!

My personal favorite (sorry not the greatest video ) Frank Stams hammers Rodney Pete of USC !!Please post your favorite Irish hit !!Only one each !! Lets get Irish ugly and hyped for the 2016 season !!
How about c ndukwe hit on Calvin Johnson ? Johnson is a big body and ndukwe leveled him.

ND vs Texas.

Max's laying the lumber. Not the best video and why I didn't share it before.

Thanks Ara.

That penalty on the hit by Redfield is definitely bogus. To make it more difficult, Gardner was wearing #98 ... the number normally worn by a WR, TE or DE ... If a QB doesn't want to get hit, he should move out of the way of the return man ... if he decides to pursue, he should be open to getting hit like any other player on the field. Can't have it both ways.

I actually believe earlier in that game, a Michigan offensive lineman knocked Trumbetti out of the game with a very questionable hit.

There is a HUGE emphasis on protecting the QB on plays like that -- you can thank Alabama for that (there was a play in the SEC Championship game a few years back where the QB was absolutely blind-sided). So, while you think it was a legal hit (yes, it was above the waist and on the side), it was unnecessary as well (watch the video -- there is an ND player in better position to block Devin Gardner if he attempted to tackle Shumate).

So, by rule, it was an illegal hit (mainly, QB's are classified as "defenseless players" in those situations).

Me too. I didn't know what happened. From where I was sitting in the student section, it looked like the ball literally exploded!

Jerome Bettis:
"Now, I`ve seen the possibilities in the fullback position. I can do as much hitting at fullback as I can at linebacker. I can inflict as much punishment while I`m carrying the ball. If I can bust through (the line) as fast as I can and take somebody with me, it always pumps me up. I like to inflict a little pain on people."
