That OSU team was f-ing stacked. You want top WRs -- Jeremiah Smith 5* (#1 HS player last year), Emeke Embuka 5*, Carnell Tate 5*! Or how about on D S-Sonny Styles 5*, JT Tuimoloau 5*, Jack Sawyer 5*, Caleb Downs 5* transfer from Bama, #8 player in his HS class. Not to mention several 5*s on the offensive line. Treyvon Henderson 5*, and Judkins a 5* transfer...

We got pushed around on both lines. Somehow we hung in there and actually had a chance to tie it with less than 5 min left! (Credit our coaches and player development.)

But if Ryan Day doesn't win with this group of athletes it would have been on par Lou Holtz's miss with our superior talent in '93.

Proud of our boys. But yes Chase, we need better recruits at the skill positions. (Although if CJ or Angeli are as good as I hope, we'll be better next year! Credit our coaches. But be better recruiters!)

You do not need to read never ending bloviating posts to figure our OSU had 14 Five Star Players and ND had 1 Five Star Players, With that said ND has seen players like Kyle Hamilton, JOK, B Mo, Michael Mayer & J Love etc develop into Five Star Talents. So the incoming rankings are not the be all, end all,

Forgetting about the injuries on defense, the ND passing attack was underwhelming this year. Riley, the cast of WR's, and injuries on the O-Line, contributed.

The passing game needs to be upgraded, ND year in and year out should have a dominant run game, and big time TE''s. That alone should make it schematically easiser to throw the football. Greathouse really seems to be coming on, hopefully he builds on the Orange Bowl and NCG and develops into a real #1 and threat.

ND will a have a new starting QB next season
ND may have a new DC next season.

The real difference honestly was Smith. He was not just a 5*, he was a generational 5* at a key position. His size, speed, hands and dynamic routing running were the best I have seen at the college level in the modern era of passing. Yes IMHO better than MHJ, Chase, Jefferson and DeVonta Smith. And, he is only a Freshman.

With that being said, it was always going to be an uphill battle with ND needing O$U to shoot themselves in the foot. They didn't. ND's DL was too banged up and depleted to force any uncomfortableness. And yet, they still had a slim chance. Kudos to the staff and player determination for that.

Freeman will now have to navigate an off-season that comes along with huge success. He will likely need to replace some key staff members and he will need to continue to elevate the returning players. The first step with that is consistency. Not top 15 consistency anymore, but elevated top 5/Final 4 consistency. Keep that up and a break through will happen.

As much as last night was not without disappointment, the only real disappointment is that the season is all over. I absolutely loved watching this team play. They overcame and overachieved so much. And that is all I really need. The title is just a cherry on top.

Did Lorenzo Styles play much? We could have used him last night. He never should have transferred, he was doing fine here at WR.

Alright, calm down. He ain't that special, you're overstating it. But he is good. And we should not have left him in single coverage with CG on that game-deciding 3rd and long in any event. He was on an island....

I believe he did, but he's a CB now at OSU. Golden is interviewing with the Bengals tomorrow and it sounds like it's a done deal.

Yeah, kind of makes you wonder if he was distracted. I don't know how you couldn't be. Even if it was/is a done deal, you still want to have a good showing on D, and it was pretty rough there for a nice long stretch. He's not going out with a bang we'll put it that way.

Golden was in a tough place with your DL being banged up and your CB's playing man against those WR. I predicted a 10-14 point win for OSU, but i thought if ND played a lot of man it would get ugly and it did until OSU went into running the clock down mode, which i hate.

I would be more than happy to trade Igbinosin #1 for Gray!

A blind man could see they were stacked, why they were ranked top 2. Chass wasn’t dropping any knowledge

I think some of what Chase said was true I just don't want to hear it 1000 times on every thread.
I've been saying the same s*** for almost 20 years and it's beyond frustrating seeing the university do Dickie McGeezaks about it (loss after loss after loss at the highest level) while the fans and local media people continually cover their eyes and ears and look the other way and use their imagination pretending like the talent issue isn't a gap the size of a football field that it is

That guy is pretty sweet. He definitely interferes a lot. I could almost imagine your coaches tell him, You know what? Don't even worry about it, just be physical. We'll deal with the PI calls, we're going to be ahead by three TDs or more in most of our games....

CG is good, he's a real warrior out there. But he does get beat. A good passing offense can exploit him. So on that one fateful play, it'd have been nice to have our frosh AA 6-2 CB on Smith.

Also anytime Notre Dame loses one of these postseason games versus a tier 1 team the fans come out saying the very same s*** every time:

It's not that Notre Dame's program is far behind from the first tier of rosters it's that we played a historically great team (literally heard the same s*** about Alabama 12 Clemson 18 Alabama 20 and now OSU 24)

This program and this fanbase does not have any tolerance for any accountability And I have a feeling that this is also too why Notre Dame can't get over the hump a lot of delusional fans and brass at the highest level of the institution who are more concerned with excuse making instead of taking ownership and fixing the problems going on here

It's also very frustrating doing a lot of good research writing good post providing extraordinary evidence because I know there's going to be a lot of pushback on what I'm saying only to be proven correct over and over and over and over and over and over again and then not only not earning any benefit of the doubt on the topic but instead being s*** on for it and then the university doing absolutely nothing to address it year after year after decade after decade

I'm not trying to be the smartest guy in the room I'm literally doing everything I can to bring attention to the obvious most blantant most highlighted most obvious most low-hanging fruit situation in the football program (the area that needs the most desperate level of emergency attention) and nobody wants to talk about it address it or fix it and this too is beyond frustrating

Lastly I don't want credit I want material investment and change at the top of the institution to address this very very important obvious-to-anybody-with-two f******-brain-cells issue in the program

Notre Dame is already doing well with top prospects on the offensive line and tight ends and running game. The problem is the game has changed quite dramatically and now all of the best talent is now concentrated in passing-game positions. The best quarterbacks wide receivers offensive tackles and edge rushers and cornerbacks are where all the highest rated talent is now and outside of offensive tackle Notre Dame is entirely irrelevant on the recruiting trail among the best prospects at these positions that is dominating college football And it shows over and over and over again anytime Notre Dame lines up opposite of a team that recruits these positions better than they do

Yes there's some i agreed with, but what Chase is saying we are awear of, and understand even in todays environment of paying players they still got to be able to get into ND.....or is that not so?

This could one of the worst threads on this board. You give someone credit who doesn’t say anything valuable in any thread. Almost everyone on this board wants him and his multiple handles gone. All he does is regurgitate the same topic over and over. It’s not rocket science that the team with the best players usually wins. You don’t think ND and every other school in the country is trying the get the best players?

I think that there is general agreement that Notre Dame needs to continue efforts to narrow the talent disparity gap. Where chase goes awry is in his over-the-top criticism of the university and repeated bashing of recruiting efforts and insistence that anyone that disagrees with him simply doesn’t care enough. His continued hysteria and repetitive bashing of university leadership and recruiting philosophy are absolutely nauseating and suggestive of underlying personality disorder. Hence, I give him no credit and he shall remain on ignore

We are on a college football forum with daily/weekly/monthly updates regarding the talent acquisition of the football program with a billion dollar industry that publishes updated dynamic ratings and rankings and news of all the players seeking scholarship to play football at the highest level. Point being this is an ongoing 24/7 discussion

Of course I'm going to continually talk about maybe the most important aspect of a college football program (their talent acquisition) very frequently especially when it's the single greatest issue that is a noose around the program's neck for multiple decades now

I don't think people have an issue with this being spoken about in terms of it at its face value as much as what it calls into question regarding the politics and power dynamics at the highest level of the Notre Dame University football program

It paints Notre Dame institutionally in a really ugly greedy deceptive manipulative light but that's just reality and people are going to have to deal with it

I'm sorry Notre Dame football isn't all rainbows and Christmas and Santa Clause and sunshine and happy thoughts but rather very human very American very political very ugly and dirty and grimy like any institution with lots of wealth being made from it

Okay Chase, now you are really making me regret starting this thread.

I don't think you know Notre Dame. We are never going to be able to get all of those 'semi-pro' guys who are 5* HS players. Our players HAVE to attend CLASSES, have to WRITE PAPERS and TAKE TESTS. That is just not the case at a place like OSU. So, no, we ain't ever going to get the volume of 5* players that OSU (a juggernaut this year) or Bama gets. Our model is more like Michigan's last year. A couple of high impact 5*s and a bunch of Senior and 5th year guys who were 3 and 4* players who are 5*s in their 4th and 5th years.

This game would have been different if our whole defensive line wasn't hurt. Take Sawyer and JT and their DTs out of the lineup and maybe we're able to run the ball a little. Plus, imagine if Alt and Fisher stayed for a senior year - we would have been much more competitive.

So please, take the compliment and really, just take a cigarette break and shut up.

I believe he did, but he's a CB now at OSU. Golden is interviewing with the Bengals tomorrow and it sounds like it's a done deal.
And once again one of our coaches has his foot out the door b4 the big game and we underperformed. Hogwash on OSU and talent. Divided interests. The only thing I will concede is that if we had an elite player in place of RJ Oben we would have kept their score down. Plus, which one of OSUs 5 star athletes made Mitch Jeter miss a chip shot? Or force us to poorly execute a fake punt which was a 3 point give away.

Take a lap. Coaches get poached when the team performs like this

Interview is tomorrow. He came from Cincy and was called.

Nothing wrong with Al Golden pursuing the NFL if that is what he desires.

Nobody says that about this Ohio team. But those other teams are. 2014 Ohio state was better.

No, I'm really not... he is probably the most gifted WR I have seen, especially at this age.. With his combination of size, hands, speed and route running IQ, he would be the top prospect this year if he was eligible for the draft.

I don't think nobody wants to acknowledge or address, but not every recruit can academically handle ND. You don't ever seem to want to acknowledge that either. You do also realize that none of us, and I mean NONE of us do the recruiting. So your constant diatribe becomes tiresome. We have to get pumped up and cheer for the guys on the team, regardless of F+, * that, etc.

I also think it's a different game if ND hadn't lost it's top 3 pass rushers and All-American CB. But yes, the WR room and QB needs to continue to get more dynamic.

Was with them in the Super Bowl not too long ago. Also, I think some guys are just NFL guys. Obviously Golden is.
So is Tommy Rees.

Why anyone would ask why Al Golden desires one of 32 coordinator positions in the greatest professional sport in the world is beyond me.
