Goodbye Stanford

It really doesn't hurt Notre Dame because a whole lot of things will happen. An 11-1 ND team is in barring major developments.

The only way Stanford hurts ND. Is if ND goes into Stanford and does not play well and gets beat. I never felt Stanford was as bad as the NW game but I never felt they were a juggernaut or a serious playoff contender either. Keep in mind WASU lined up for a game winning 40 yard FG to beat them a couple of weeks ago.

Hogan is still inconsistent after 5 years and aside from Martinez the Stanford defense really lacks speed and guys who can make plays in space. ND beating then would be another "good" road win, over a good but not great team. Like Temple and Pitt.

Stanford is a lot better than Pitt or Temple, and will give us all we can handle. They lost two unforced fumbles last night deep into Oregon territory, and still lost by a failed two point conversion. Otherwise, we likely would be talking this morning about Stanford's two TD win over Oregon and their juggernaught of an offense which gained over 500yards. They'll fall out of the top ten for sure, not sure whether they'll fall out of the top fifteen. The game will provide the sos significance we need, and prove to be a real test for our team.

Well the turnovers were committed and we are talking about a 2 loss football team. The same as Temple and Pitt. I could just as easily rationalize ND into a 10-0 football team
I agree a win over Stanford is no longer considered marquee. Just "good" because I never felt Stanford was a marquee team just a good team. And my suspicions came to fruition

Temple gave ND all they wanted and I'm sure Stanford could as well. I just love ND style of offense, defense and play makers in a match up with Stanfords athletes and system.

The four team format needs to be expanded to 8 teams . There is too much parity in the top 10 for a four team format to be fair . If there are 5 one loss teams at seasons end how do you send one of those team packing ? Hell you can be 8-8 and make the NFL playoffs .

Stanford's offense is very good . Irish better bring their a game offensively to keep up .

I hope Kelly has some stuff dialed up that will will include Hunter and Jones - I think we will need a full bag of tricks to beat them out there .

My initial thoughts were this was bad for ND but big picture, it has eliminated the Pac12, so now we are down to 4 conferences and ND for 4 spots. In a way we're about the same. AND, Stanford getting beat as the 'other' elite football/academic option will help on the recruiting trail. Hopefully a few mediocre seasons will precipitate a step down for this program overall.

Either an 8 team playoff or a wild card game between # 4 and #5 in mid December. Then the winner is granted a playoff birth. Oklahoma State isn't and elite team and neither is Iowa so barring any unexpected losses I think the playoff committee has their top 4 set in stone. And if the current 4 remain it should be exciting football.

At first I was thinking, thanks a lot Owls. Thanks a lot Trees. Then I started to think how taking care of your own business is much more than a cliché.
