Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher announced Thursday after practice that Everett Golson will start on Saturday against NC State.

Golson had more reps with the first-team offense on Thursday than he had earlier in the week.

"We're going to start Everett," Fisher said Thursday night. "Had a real good week of practice. Liked what he did."

Fisher said Sean Maguire is healthy. Maguire stepped in to start two weeks ago against Syracuse when Golson was out with a concussion.

"This is no knock on Sean," Fisher said. "Are there some plays we wish (Maguire) could have made? Yes. Was there plays (Golson could have made) in the Georgia Tech game? Yes. It wasn't just them. We all could have made plays. ... This is indicative of what we think we can do best for this game to win the game."

Have to really wonder about HCJF's thinking against Clemson. Did he not want to win that game? (Conspiracy theory alert !) Possible that Fisher as an ACC proponent wanted the team with best chance to go to Playoff to stay undefeated?

Actually, this is a strange development. I figured EG would never see the field again in college. He has no elegibility remaining and FSU is out of the NC and ACC race so I thought they would go with youth. Hope EG plays well.

if he doesn't bomb then Jimbo will get a lot o s}%t - where he looked like he was applying discipline he now looks like he is swinging in the wind!

agree TT,,,

It looked like Jimbo was determined to develop future since SMAG was in no way capable of beating Clemson. Golson would have done better, so did they throw that one to allow Son of Clem to have a path to NC ? I expected FSU to play the younger guys, but best to EG... too bad he went that direction.

Simply do not understand their strategy. If they thought Maguire gave them the best chance to win and benched EG as a result, what the hell are they thinking now? Let Maguire continue to get reps and play, and be in the best possible position to make an impact next year.

Oh well...I wish EG the best.

This is just further proof that Jumbo is a poor coach. If it was a good decision to start Maguire last week it would be a good decision to stick with him.

On the contrary EG is the best QB on the infidels team but Jumbo is apparently too stupid to see that.

I wish EG well and I'm sure he can't wait to get out of the cesspool some call FSU.

BTW, thanks to all for running off Mo1e and cgvr.

I think they want to preserve a year for the young QB (fr) and - after that it is a wtf? situation! Why start EG? Is this a last hurrah or token NFL audition (he has no shot in the NFL, no one will put up w/his crap).

he could grow out of the "starry eyed" crap and I expect the NFL will put up with a lot of crap,, see Dez Bryant etc.....

As the old saying goes "when you have two QB's, you really have zero QB's". FSU is still looking for their QB of the future. The answer does not lie with either one of those guys.

"poor coach " ? I know you don't like the guy but stupidity certainly doesn't give you credibility in your opinion.

Fisher can coach but he is hamstrung at the QB position. Just like Brian Kelly was hamstrung for 5 years with the Crist, Rees, Golson merry go round. IMO you do not develop talent. The talent, poise, awareness and ability is already there, a great coach just brings it out.

Guys like WInston and Kizer have "it" and good coaches bring it out, Guys like Crist, Rees, Golson and McGuire do not have "it". And no amount of coaching is going to change that. The lack of a big time player at the QB position in College Football can cost you 2-3 football games per year.

The ND QB's performance played heavily in losses to ASU, Northwestern and Louisville last year, QB play has factored greatly in FSU's losses at Georgia Tech, Clemson and I'd imagine Golson will struggle with the UF defense as well.

Just remember these 3, that's al you need to know:

  • JJ Cosentino 6'4" 240 Rfr.--4 star
  • Deondre Francois 6'2" 210 fr.--4 star
  • Malik Henry 6'2" 195 fr.--5 star ranked #1 in the nation
And don't forget:

Young, huge and quick O and D lines that now have a year of experience under their belts.
A stable of record breaking RB's featuring Heisman hopeful Dalvin Cook.
A stable of world class wide outs.
A stable of highly rated DB's.
All world kickers and punters.
Coach Jimbo Fisher's record: 3 losses in 3 years.

So yeah, 2015 has been a rebuilding year and 2016 will be reloaded. Plenty to look forward to this year and next.
