Why in the world did I think a Kelly coached team could win a big game??? Look at what good coaching can do. Mark coached his but off preparing his team for this game. Again, much respect Cane fans.

I got back home from the game an hour ago and my ears are still ringing. That's how loud it was. I sit low upper deck so I receive full impact from this contrived roof.

The Canes haven't managed line of scrimmage dominance like that on both sides of the ball in a meaningful game in 15 years. I'm not kidding myself that it would play out that way if the teams met repeatedly. There were wide eyed Canes fans all over the stadium. The knowledgeable fans. We were talking about how pleased yet shocked we were. I'm sure the cameras only showed the cheerleader types who pretended they knew it all along. I expected it to be a tight game that Miami would likely lose. I really didn't start feeling confident until the crowd refused to stop cheering Ed Reed when he was honored maybe 15 minutes prior to game time. The Canes have so many pro standouts that ceremonies like that are commonplace. But none brought a tear to my eyes like this one did. Unbelievable. It was like the crowd was willing another glory era and was determined to begin tonight.

There was too much emphasis placed on those handful of midseason games in which we struggled. All Canes fans realized that. Our talent level is very high again, if not national championship level. I still think we're likely to end the season with a thud somewhere. Maybe like your 2012 team that overreached.

In sampling Irish boards this past week I was dismayed at the overconfidence in a rout or semi rout, and the blatant ignorance of our roster, playing style and talent level. That's the only reason I posted last night. If the summaries had been confident but accurate I would have stayed away. Somehow those handful of Miami close calls in midseason took on absurd emphasis, and I was seeing posts asserting the North Carolina State run defense as unquestionably superior to Miami's. That's just silly, if personnel means anything. The Canes are loaded with front seven athletes and we're just hoping many of them don't turn pro early. We got extremely fortunate when Missouri fired its highly regarded defensive line coach Kulongowski a couple of years ago and the timing worked out perfectly for Richt to snap him up. Coach Kool was largely responsible for that avalanche tonight.

Late last season Miami traveled to North Carolina State and handled them easily. I attended the game and was nervous going in. Miami was a slight favorite but dominated the second half especially defensively and in the trenches. I would point to that game as the signal instead of the noise. It was the first time I thought we had turned the corner toward legitimacy. Then it carried over in the bowl game against West Virginia. I attended that game also, in Orlando and in a mixed section of Canes fans and Mountaineer fans. Those West Virginia fans were very confident. I even heard them reference our Notre Dame outcome as evidence that their offense would walk all over us. During the second half they were silent and bewildered. Several of their fans told me they didn't think it was possible for their offense to be mangled like that. One Mountaineer fan directly behind me said he had no idea Miami had athletes like that on defense. West Virginia gained barely over 200 yards, if I remember correctly.

If that type of thing had been spotlighted entering tonight, your expectations would have been more real world. It is unwise to doubt a program backed by Dade County recruiting base.

Anyway, I wish this rivalry could unfold every season, per deserved. As lopsided as tonight was it still was more competitive than all those 77-0 laughers. They aren't going away. Canes fans were still mocking the runaway Gators when they thought they were winning national titles under Urban Meyer.

Honestly, I thought this would be an easy win until I saw Miami beat up VT even though the Canes were -3 in turnovers. Only the best teams can do that and having seen that, I was a bit nervous. But I didn’t expect this.

Not as impressive as 41-3 in 2012, but well played I guess.
Wtf is wrong with you? He was being classy despite a total dominance over our #3 team in the country. This game had playoff contentions written all over it. The 2012 game had no such relevance. We laid a big time egg once again on a big time stage. Trust me, I'm as sore as you are about the outcome of this game. But, they dominated us and he was being respectful about it. Put down the butt hurt for one minute.

I was just making a true statement. That's normally what I do.

Still they had a rather impressive night, but I've seen better.

That's how I felt too. I don't have the time to watch college football all weekend, so I tend to rely on scores and what I read. So after I saw that VT game, I definitely thought we were in for a struggle. Not a 5-TD beatdown, but a struggle.

We just didn't show up. ND is a better team than that. Kids do that. It's what separates good from great. Played in October I like ND in that game it's a long season and some aren't up for the long haul.

I was surely wrong as well. I expected ND control the LOS in the run game and come away with a double-digit win margin.

Zorich88, thank you for your nice post. Most of the ND posters are now attacking our Cuban chain. Oh well.....

I don't blame the Cane fans or that stupid chain for what happened last night. The blame goes to our staff and players. They are the ones who were not ready for prime time. ND won four in a row against Miami. Embarrassed the Canes in the Sun Bowl and Soldier Field. One of our pitiful 4 wins last season was against a good Miami team. Canes deserved the win last night. Don't know how the rest of their season will pan out and don't care. ND has to correct things fast or the rest of this season could end in disaster.

When I was somewhat critical of ND in the WF game, I was told how wrong that I was ! That WF
Scores were garbage points, etc.
However, I too was happy with with the record and games won buy ND, but I thought that WF
Game did show the success that a fast paced team could have against our defense did show some defensive weaknesses that our defense had not shown previously.
In defense of our defense, our offense was non existent last night, so all the pressure was on our defense and they also cracked.
Very bad night all around !

What do you mean "not as impressive" you killed a Miami team that was unranked, had already lost to Kansas State 52-15 and finished the year 7-5. I would say a 41-8 beat down with two teams ranked in the top 7 playing late in the year for potentially getting into the college football playoff was FAR more impressive than that meaningless game in the middle of the year in 2012 against an unranked Miami

Was a neutral site game and Notre Dame doubled up Miami in yardage, and had a wider margin of victory. ND did not win due to bonehead plays from Miami as there were 0 turnovers in the game. At the time it was a 4-0 vs 4-1 team. Did not say the implications were more significant. The performance itself was more impressive.

That is all.

Soldier Field a neutral site??? Are you kidding me? Stop trying so hard you are looking like a fool. This game had playoff and possibly national Champiohship Implications while The 2012 game was a horrible season and we were very young. If I remember correctly Philip Dorsett dropped 2 TD passes in the endzone to start the game. Miami would have been up 14-0 thus a totally different game. But please spin it how ever you would like. Bottom line is we finally have confident players and competent coaches, something we have been lacking for 15 years. Anywho, I hope those that came down for the game got home safely. I know the tailgate was epic for both sides.

Cane fans working hard to rewrite football history. Last night's win wasn't good enough. Now, the past beat downs have to be justified and tempered with excuses why Miami lost. Fans that were most likely not part of the 3,000 Cane diehards who actually deserve to gloat. Better move over. Celebs from all over will be taking over your bandwagon who were nowhere near the program when they played Bethune-Cookman. Hell, Cane fans didn't even come for the game against G Tech about a month ago. Stadium wasn't taken over by Jacket fans. It was just plain empty. And now they are thumping their chest?

Yes, unfortunately for the U of M, they simply do not have a large fan base. They have had some great teams in the past and now have a very good coach. And as we all saw last night, they also have a lot of bandwagon fans. However, if Miami were to lose two games, nobody shows up. Sad for them. The Irish on the other hand have a tremendous fan base. Notre Dame is the only university with a national fan base.

No I am not kidding you. I am technically right. Check out this link and scroll to the '12-'13 season:

http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/nd-m-footbl-sched.html

The official ND athletic site has them 2-1 in neutral site games that year. Should they state 1-1 in neutral site games?

You can argue it was a 'de-facto' home game, but I am 100% technically right.

Michigan played FSU in the Orange Bowl last season. Was that a home game for FSU?

I already dismissed the point about implications. I was talking strictly the performance. You are bringing up consequential factors to the game, I am talking about the game itself.

You also lied about Miami having the chance to be up 14-0 in 2012. I just watched the video. That was on the same drive. If the first one was caught, the second play would not have existed. It would have been 7-0. It would have been 7-0 if Brandon Wimbush didn't nearly miss a wide St. Brown in the endzone on the first drive too. Who cares? I'd rather talk about what DID happen, not what COULDA happened. That line of argumentation comes cheap.

This didn't need to turn into a blown up debate. I made an uncontroversial and statistically true statement (points and yardage) and I stand by it. You kicked our ass this year, we kicked your ass harder in 2012, and btw you kicked our ass even harder in 1985.

But another fact...17-8-1

That is all.

Stupid chain???????
You mean the hottest topic in college football?
Many teams have some type of gimmick. Not sorry Miami’s is the best!

LMAO love your pathetic attempt @ rationalizing that meanless game YEARS ago, to 11/11 game with BCS Playoff and NC ON THE LINE!
So funny to watch some fans.

LMAO another envious and jealous fan!
Dude, Miami loves people like you, Canes thrive on it!!!!!
Guess u weren’t @ the game, as Indiana is such a wonderful place to be, However the fans INIMIDATED your team, and QB

ND has a fan base BASED on religion.
Canes are a BRAND
All we have to say is the U

The worst part of it all is the satisfaction of Chris fowler during the game. The guy is good but man he gave it to us during the broadcast. But that's college football and he did it tastefully. I can't wait to try to get back at them with that much on the line again!!! We will be ok. FYI cowherd was great today. He and dp best in the biz.

All you have to say is The U" and the stadium gets half filled. Let me ask you a question. Were you among the 3,000 Cane fans and were you among the half filled stadium a few weeks back when "The U" played G Tech? I'm guessing you waited in the shadows until after the ND game to decide how to proceed with this U stuff. Meet the new "U", same as the old "U".

old u hardly! Old u runs it in again last possession. Mark Richt is a good guy that has respect. Welcome to winning with respect.

You can say "the U" and about 10,000 fans show up. It takes serious winning to get the other 50,000 in the stadium. Or have you been in a coma for the past 15 years?

Lol, this game had 10x the significance.
Keep remembering insignifacant games to rationalize the BEATDOWN
So in the last four losses in a row Miami was just waiting for a game of significance? Gotcha. :)

3000 against G Tech??? I was there the place was rocking and in a torrential down pour no less. 55799 paid attendance BTW.

I didn't say 3k at the GTech game. I have repeatedly said 3k at the Bethune game. The Tech game had the appearance of a half full stadium. There are a bunch of articles at the time focusing on the lack of attendance for the G Tech game. Pictures show the stadium half full and that's being generous. Nice try. You're not going to win this debate. Every picture tells a story and the pictures of the GTech game said it all. You won the game for once and apparently, that's not good enough. Let it go.

Hey the Canes won. They took it to the Irish. Really not much else to say. Whether or not Miami is " back" as they say, remains to be seen. Plenty of football yet to be played. If it's a full stadium or quarter full, it doesn't matter. They won, time for us and ND to move on.

After you guys vanquished the Canes last season it looks like you stopped paying attention to the Miami program. Understandable. I'm sure if Notre Dame made some type of meaningful advancement late this season Canes fans wouldn't notice or care..happily defaulting to 41-8.

For reference purposes, after the Canes finished 2016 so strongly and especially on defense, with virtually everyone from the front seven returning in 2017, there was enormous confidence among Miami fans and overflowing on Canes boards. The debate was whether the defense would be Top 5 or Top 10. Best defensive line in the country, or merely one of the best. That's literally how it was going. It was assumed the second season under Manny Diaz and Coach Kool would bring significant advancement.

Then the season started. Bethune Cookman marched up and down the field. Should have scored more than they did. Our new transfer defensive back Delaney was torched. Fury erupted on Canes boards. What happened to our dominant defense? Rationalization galore. It got only worse against Toledo. We trailed at halftime and Toledo narrowly missed a touchdown catch in the final seconds of the first half. Even though the offense perked up in the second half it wasn't viewed as much consolation. This defense was underperforming. I sat there during the Toledo game thankful the Rockets didn't have Kareem Hunt or Michael Roberts from last season.

Now everything has indeed gone back to the beginning. Expectations being met. Canes fans aren't as shocked as the rest of the nation, due to knowledge of our personnel and how that defense looked to end 2016.

BTW, as I was typing this something popped up down below, saying I have 1 new alert.

Horrors. I feel so embarrassed. I don't even know what it means. But I know I'm being scolded for something.

What is this, junior high school?
