Can a less experienced than usual list of tight end candidates fill the shoes of Koyack, Eirfert for the Irish in 2015? I.e Smythe, Luatua, Heuerman and Wieshar. And Who do you think will stand out?

Re: Football Questions for Paying Members

I see Luatua as more of a blocking type who may catch a few passes this season as well as lining up in the backfield possibly in running situations much like he did last year. The key is for him to develop into a receiving threat as to not be to predictable on offense. It would be nice if we could line him up in a power running Hback type of roll and be able to slip him out of the backfield as used to be done with Eifert. Smythe sure has the ability and build to be more like Koyack and be a very good block/catch tight end. I think he will be the primary TE when all is said and done. Hopefully Heureman was able to put on a little bit of mass this offseason. He was built more like a WR last season and I think hurt his changes to make an impression on the depth chart (along with his injury). I would look for Luatua and Smythe to be on the field a bunch together to create matchup issues against the linebackers.

I agree I think Smythe will be the go-to receiving TE in the future.

Alize Jones is going to be a big part of the receiving game from day 1. He's going to be special.

jones won't be ready to put his hands down and block yet but he'll see the field early because of his great hands to go with the really good speed he has for a 6-5 guy
