I will bet against this list all day. Although two teams from the same conference who play each other in the regular season could end up as a top four it's unlikely conference winners from TWO conferences would be left out unless their winners had numerous losses. Which I guess could happen.
When they expand to eight playoff teams then I could see this happening.

I agree. In the present 4 team playoff it's possible but unlikely. If it were to turn out that way then 2 conferences would be left out. And if that happens the cry for an 8 team playoff will grow louder and louder. Of course, one of the dilemas of adding more playoff games is the dilution of the significance of the Bowl games. One thing about it........it will be another interesting aspect of the playoff selections this year.
Schlabach's playoffs prediction and $2.49 (plus tax) will buy you a Happy (hamburger) Meal.
...if you want cheese on that burger, it's thirty cents more.
50% of the playoff contenders plus showing up in the playoffs annually. And if (huge IF) Schlabach is correct and both Clemson and FSU end up in the playoffs there is a chance they could end up playing one another yet again in an all ACC National Title rematch. It will be a very interesting year with some very interesting side lights to watch.

I hear ya...........but, it's the off season and writers have to write about something. Funny how sometimes way out predictions actually turn out to come to fruition. So, you never know in CFB. It's always amusing to say what if.....
And BTW, if memory serves me correctly I believe you were pulling for Clemson last year in the NC game. Hey......they were ahead for 3 1/2 quarters so you almost got your wish (2 ACC NC's in 3 years).

Preseason polls, predictions all hype, and fun conjecture. I prefer the eyeball test myself. You just never know when a loss like to GT might end the dream of making the cut to the playoffs.
Is 2 teams from the ACC the biggest problem you all have with that list? I think its unlikely they'd put two teams from the same division in the playoff unless no one else is deserving.

I'd be shocked, however, if Michigan survives the B1G undefeated. Their schedule is very weak, so they probably need to run the table. Their 3 toughest games are on the road -- OSU, Iowa & MSU.

Michigan is however the early media darling which means even a bad loss and bad schedule wont get you out of the conversation. Personally I think they are at least one more year away. The list itself is a good list of contenders but highly unlikely fsu and Clemson makes it. Clemson is rolling right now and is getting a lot of recruits from the south that used to go to Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. They will contend for a while.
If history is any kind of indicator I'm sure someone here will chime in soon and state that Clemson and FSU will lose at least three each and ND should go 12-0 / 11-1 and be playoff bound. Wait for it. ;-)

Nah, don't have to do that. There're a couple of posts on this thread alone by you that proves my point. If Argus posts anything negative about FSU, you're right there to defend Nole honor. Most of your posts are in reply to Argus and it was obvious from your arrival that this wasn't your first rodeo on BG&I. If anyone is curious enough to go through your posts, they will. I did a couple of months ago when thought you had a very similar posting style and traits to a Nole poster that hasn't posted here in months.

Yeah, ScotchIrish..... will correct argus every once and a while but for the most part he does it in a restrained and diplomatic fashion even when argus goes off the deep end. Hey.......everybody here hates argus regardless of school affiliation especially ND fans. Anyway, lighten up just a tad as most of the content ScotchIrish........ contributes is enlightening and well worth reading.

I don't have to "pull" for a certain team to enjoy a football game. Think there might be some if and buts about Michigan and FSU. I'm glad the first ranking for the playoffs come out November 1st. That gives a lot of time for the committee to see how the season is shaking out. Will be interesting to see how this preseason conjecture holds up.

Conjecture is a good word. With FSU the QB situation is uncertain, Alabama lost a ton of experienced talent to the NFL, Clemson lost some talent as well and Michigan may look good on paper but is unproven and plays a weak schedule. So..........like you say........lots of interesting plots and sub-plots to watch unfold this season.
