I will bet against this list all day. Although two teams from the same conference who play each other in the regular season could end up as a top four it's unlikely conference winners from TWO conferences would be left out unless their winners had numerous losses. Which I guess could happen. His 4 teams for the playoffs are:
Alabama
Clemson
Michigan
Florida State
Schlabach predicts that even though Clemson and FSU play one another and one of those teams will be 11&1 they both will still make the playoffs! Wow..........very bold prediction indeed!
ever get tired of shilling for the ACC?His 4 teams for the playoffs are:

When they expand to eight playoff teams then I could see this happening.
Same two almost every year from the ACC. How is that a dominant conference? His 4 teams for the playoffs are:
Alabama
Clemson
Michigan
Florida State

Schlabach's playoffs prediction and $2.49 (plus tax) will buy you a Happy (hamburger) Meal.
...if you want cheese on that burger, it's thirty cents more.
Hi Alice,
I hear ya...........but, it's the off season and writers have to write about something. Funny how sometimes way out predictions actually turn out to come to fruition. So, you never know in CFB. It's always amusing to say what if.....
And BTW, if memory serves me correctly I believe you were pulling for Clemson last year in the NC game. Hey......they were ahead for 3 1/2 quarters so you almost got your wish (2 ACC NC's in 3 years).
Make mine with cheese.
Second most NFL players drafted annually is a good argument.Same two almost every year from the ACC. How is that a dominant conference?
Michigan is however the early media darling which means even a bad loss and bad schedule wont get you out of the conversation. Personally I think they are at least one more year away. The list itself is a good list of contenders but highly unlikely fsu and Clemson makes it. Clemson is rolling right now and is getting a lot of recruits from the south that used to go to Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. They will contend for a while. Is 2 teams from the ACC the biggest problem you all have with that list? I think its unlikely they'd put two teams from the same division in the playoff unless no one else is deserving.
I think Alabama, FSU and Clemson are all going to be contenders. I can't argue with that
I'd be shocked, however, if Michigan survives the B1G undefeated. Their schedule is very weak, so they probably need to run the table. Their 3 toughest games are on the road -- OSU, Iowa & MSU.
Not much of a fast food junkie (or McDonalds fan), so you'll have to order your own Happy Meal.
Actually, my comment was a twist on a quote by the late Orlando "Gunner" Wyman that coached Vincennes Lincoln to two Final Fours and a state championship in basketball.
"Poll rankings and a dime will buy you a cup of coffee"
Gunner (Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame member) played his college ball at Florida State.
Preseason polls, predictions all hype, and fun conjecture. I prefer the eyeball test myself. You just never know when a loss like to GT might end the dream of making the cut to the playoffs.
Gosh Alice............Good info. Thanks for the history lesson. 71% winning average over 29 years is impressive!
Orlando "Gunner" Wyman
High School: NOT SET 1943
College: FLORIDA STATE
Inducted 1991
Won 71 percent of his games during a 29-year coaching career...coached Vincennes to state championship in 1981...also coached three other teams into Final Four...Tell City in '61 and Vincennes in '68 and '69...teams also won 9 regionals, including 3 straight at Tell City, and 21 sectionals...twice named coach of the year by the Indiana Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association...coached Indiana all-stars to two victories over Kentucky in '81...a thre-year letterman at Florida State.
If history is any kind of indicator I'm sure someone here will chime in soon and state that Clemson and FSU will lose at least three each and ND should go 12-0 / 11-1 and be playoff bound. Wait for it. ;-)Schlabach's playoffs prediction and $2.49 (plus tax) will buy you a Happy (hamburger) Meal.

I'm sure there are. Unlikely they'll be chiming in here though. The Ghost of NO1E speaks............
Whaddya want to bet that the there's some FSU fans with similar thoughts about Clemson, Florida, Miami, and even, ND having two to three losses with the Noles going undefeated?
I'm sure there are. Unlikely they'll be chiming in here though.
You're full of it. How about copy and pasting anything I have said about Florida State (or any team other than ND). I will hang up and listen to your response. Thanks in advance.Oh, Duo chimes in plenty on this Irish board for the Nole Nation, you rep FSU too, by baiting/replying (to) Argus and supporting FSU football on an Irish board, but then what should we expect? You're just an FSU fan that shows pride in his ScotchIrish heritage by incorporating it into your username on an ND fan board.
Strongly suggest you check the projected SOS being put out there before spouting off about something you know nothing about. Ignorance is bliss. You know nothing! There is a far better chance for zero ACC teams making the playoffs than two. What a terrible result it would be to see two distasteful programs like FSU and Clemson rewarded for playing poor strengths of schedules.

That's what I thought.Nah, don't have to do that. There're a couple of posts on this thread alone by you that proves my point. If Argus posts anything negative about FSU, you're right there to defend Nole honor. Most of your posts are in reply to Argus and it was obvious from your arrival that this wasn't your first rodeo on BG&I. If anyone is curious enough to go through your posts, they will. I did a couple of months ago when thought you had a very similar posting style and traits to a Nole poster that hasn't posted here in months.
I seem to have hit a nerve, but I did note that there was no denial of being an FSU fan. Have a good evening.
Alice,
You know I have great respect for you and you are one of my favorite posters...........So, I'm going to take the liberty of giving you a little of the same advice you've given me before on dealing with argus.
Yeah, ScotchIrish..... will correct argus every once and a while but for the most part he does it in a restrained and diplomatic fashion even when argus goes off the deep end. Hey.......everybody here hates argus regardless of school affiliation especially ND fans. Anyway, lighten up just a tad as most of the content ScotchIrish........ contributes is enlightening and well worth reading.
And thank you again Alice for all the info you posted above. Great stuff and a good read for everybody on the board.
Strongly suggest you check the projected SOS being put out there before spouting off about something you know nothing about. Ignorance is bliss. You know nothing!

RE: SOS
You knew this, it's been posted here before, everybody on this board knows it. Everybody..........save one, and we all know who that is. Bwahahahahahahah!
I actually thought I saw our SOS at 49. If that holds we're going to need lots of help to be playoff bound....
OK Alice..........looks like you're no easier to bend than I am, ha ha ha!
Meanwhile, back to the subject at hand. Let's play "what if". (Just for fun and good conversation.)
What if..........both Clemson and FSU make it into the playoffs just like Schlabach has suggested and the parings ended up like this:
Clemson vs. Alabama
FSU vs. Michigan
If that happened, first of all, who would you be pulling for and second, who do you think the winners would be?
I don't have to "pull" for a certain team to enjoy a football game. Think there might be some if and buts about Michigan and FSU. I'm glad the first ranking for the playoffs come out November 1st. That gives a lot of time for the committee to see how the season is shaking out. Will be interesting to see how this preseason conjecture holds up.
