espn is garbage

I'm all for ripping into the station that went from the best to being unwatchable, but how is this their fault? ESPN sucks but I don't see the correlation.

Geez, guess i hurt some feelings here. Guess it would have been too tough to take a couple minutes and add some context to the story. You think maybe they didn't want to ruffle feathers at the NCAA.

No - maybe multiple people are just noting that the story is an Associated Press story and not an ESPN story, and you're just bothered that you're wrong.

Players should be allowed to transfer at will. Just like coaches.

It will lead to some messy situations (a backup QB at Bama transferring to Auburn for his junior season and bringing his knowledge of the playbook), but it is only fair. The players are not employees and should not be held to a "do not compete" contract clause.

I disagree. Because they're on scholarship. Non-scholarship athletes are allowed to transfer at will.

So what if they are on scholarship? Football brings in more bucks per player than the cost of a scholarship. It is not like big time programs are losing money wrt these kids.

Actually, it depends on whether the non-scholarship athlete was a "recruited athlete" with regard to the school in question.

I just don't think it would be good for the sport, or for the players. These are young 18-22 year old kids; they change their minds a lot, as we've seen with recruits over the years. A lot of messy situations could arise. There's nothing wrong with transferring schools, but having some impediment there I think is a good thing.

I hear you, and there would definitely be some adjusting. While I am not for paying players, I do think they deserve more empowerment. Almost anything short of paying players that would be to their benefit is something that I would consider. Allowing them to jump ship, the same as their coaches, seems only fair.

This is about the department of defense changing it's policy after a kid was recruited and signed. They could have easily grandfathered him in, but chose not to do so. Why the NCAA can't just use common sense and grant him a waiver is beyond me. What all of a sudden every player is going to try to leave the academies because of this? There is maybe a player or 2 that will make the NFL from Navy, most likely none.

Surely you understand that the committee that heard this initial request and then the appeal is made up of coaches/athletic directors. Not one bit of a break will be coming to ND. The jealousy and ego's will never allow ND an even playing field. There were DOD regulations that would have allowed the transfer and immediate playing time but they didn't hold a candle to the kid from California whose grandmother might be ill. It is what it is. That's why ND will be fortunate to ever make the final 4.
