Oregon ,joining another ND player ,Ali Patberg . . Hated to lose Boley in particular Not happy at ND .Could really have been an outstanding 3- point shooter . As good a coach as McGraw is ,the last 2 years we lost to Stanford twice ,the last game against Stanford after having a 17 point lead ..we will again be an excellent team with Ogunbowale, Mabrey, Young ,Westbeld and hopefully a completely recovered Turner ,plus the addition of Stanfprd PG transfer LIl Thompson to take Lindsay Allen's place running the team .and we did recruit two 6'3 forwards in Patterson , Vaughn to work into the the rotation.

Pretty sure the Irish women will survive. I blame Coach Kelly:D. Coach McGraw is a fantastic coach and leader.

Was Boley expected to play much in 2017-18? IIRC, she had size but was not considered a quality inside player. She was noted to have a good outside stroke.

I think I read that she would have really been challenged by the incoming 6'3 duo.

Still, Turners injury made me wonder if she could really recover to play at full strength next year. We could have used the big bodies to limit her minutes while she recovered.

It's a serious blow to the psyche to come in with her credentials and accolades and not be able to really break into the rotation, never mind become a starter. It's like a five star QB finding out he's unlikely to ever start, transfer is almost inevitable.

Heard rumors that Irish are also getting a transfer from Nebraska.
Too lazy to investigate if it's true or not.

Gunner ?

6'4" Transfer Jessica Shephard is a huge get for McGraw 's Lady Irish . She was an All Big 10 Center at Nebraska . Shephard has 2 years of eligibility, 2018 -19 and 2019- 2020 after sitting out a year . Great news . Just hope Turner recovers fully from her injury for 2017-18 season

Shepard was Big Ten Freshman of the Year a couple seasons ago. Averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds a game last year and was All-Big 10.

She's just what the doctor ordered. Too bad she has to sit a year.

This coming year the expectations will probably be less than usual because it's unlikely Turner plays and ND is going to be really weak on the inside with only Westbeld and freshmen. But in 2018, it could be McGraw's best team ever...

F: Brianna Turner
F: Jessica Sheppard
G: Marina Mabry
G: Arike Ogunbawale
G: Jackie Young

That's an incredible starting 5, with Arike transitioning to the role of a scoring PG, with Mabry at the 2 and Young on the wing. Deep bench by then as well with freshman phenom Jenna White and the two sophomore forwards.

That does have the makings of our best team ever. My only concern is not having a true PG in the lineup. All three can play it, I'm just not sure they can play it well enough.

Worst case scenario you insert the freshman, Jenna Brown, who is as true of a point guard as you will find or you look for a Lili Thompson caliber grad transfer in a one year scenario.

If Turner does not return for 2017-18 season , and has to wait out a year ,it presents a dilemma for McGraw . One of the reasons Shepard is transferring to ND ; she said ND had one of the best coaches teaching the center position . This implies that Shepard did not come here to be a power forward . Since Turner is a close to the basket offensive player.,what do you do?Is Turner's injury that bad and will take more than a year to get healthy?

As far as point guard . LIl Thompson ,Stanford transfer will be a good addition for 2017-18 ,and the following year we have 2 point guard commits in # 9 ranked high school player Jenna Brown and # 23 ranked high school player K. Gilbert

I 'm hoping Turner has a full recovery this year
