He's so pessimistic and color announces like he's mad. I'm both games he done He's been that way.

On J Loves TD run he automatically assumed the play was coming back and sounded pissed it didn't.

I don't even notice something like that. He comes off as totally blandly neutral, the way all TV personalities and commentators are trained to, unless you're on CNN or Fox and you're talking politics.

So I'm guessing he's not barely containing some simmering contempt for ND that he can't help but almost betray, and is pretty much in professional TV mode as he has been doing it for like, twenty years.

I think you are just searching for things to get angry about. He did say Love's run was coming back, but that's the natural conclusion anyone would make when a running back doesn't get touched as he runs through the hole. I heard no disappointment in his voice when the score stood. In fact, when he thought the play was coming back, he made a point of praising Love's effort.

Not every announcer hates ND; not every referee is trying to steal the game from us.

I think he is pretty good. Was watching Indiana vs Ohio State and had to turn down the volume so I didn't have to listen to Gus Johnson. Stop the yelling and all the bs.

He's just not good. He actually was much more positive than the play-by-play guy. I would think NBC could do better for ND.

Maybe - but if you go back to Florida State game; score was 38-3, fourth quarter, over 4 minutes left in game, Angeli is in for his first drive; 2nd and goal at the 7, he throws back shoulder to Colzie for touchdown. Here is what Blackledge said, "Well, nice job by Colzie setting up the route, and then the ball thrown to the outside perfectly by Angeli. I understand you have your back-up quarterback in -- want to give him some live action. I'm a little surprised you're throwing it as much as u were at this point. Florida state is a beaten team on that other sideline and seems like a little bit too much to me."

Eff that. If we run the ball up the middle four times and don't get it and then they go down and pull a Virginia to make the game look closer than it was calling a timeout with 2 seconds left down by 28 - people would be bitching about our style points and lack of killer instinct, blah, blah, blah and maybe rank us behind Penn State or who knows who else. I'm not saying you embarrass people (actually I do not mind pounding the Seminoles - a piece of me died in 1993), but get these guys their time. Give our back-ups the full playbook and hold them accountable to perform.

Yeah I think you're right, I think he wants to sabotage ND's season. He knows we need those style points. He can't actually prevent us from running pass plays, so there's nothing he can do about it. But he's going to say something for sure. And he's not even going to be up front about it. He'll make it seem like ND are the bad guys. We should pick on someone our own size. He just can't help himself.

I'm glad we ignored him and got the style points. It probably does help us in the polls, as small as it is. I'm just glad MF and Denbrock weren't influenced by it.

So that somehow makes him a hater. Fine.

Yeah, I think so. I mean, normally, that's like football etiquette I guess, and you call off the dogs. Just common courtesy, something like that. But sometimes coaches run up the score, whether it's for purposes of humiliation, like Jimmy Johnson vs Gerry Faust. Or for style points. And Blackledge knew for damn sure what we were trying to do, because it would help us, and that's the only reason otherwise we would totally observe proper decorum. And he had to disparage us for it. Even though of course he knew why we were doing it. We didn't want to do it, we have to. It's the life we chose as an independent, so we're forever chasing style points. And he was going to dunk on us for it. Because he can, he's got the microphone.

And damn him to hell for it.

I don't typically complain about announcers, but I agree. Gus Johnson is the worst. Every team is the greatest. Every player is an all American. Every coach is a hall of famer. Just way over the top.

I find his announcing style gimmicky and at times puerile.
