DL commit: Adetokunbo Ogundeji

we gonna need to get a nickname for him! maybe after the ole west fem cowgirl? AdeOgie

Can you here the fans chanting
AaaaaaaaaohAhaaaaaayooooooooo AaaaaaaaaohAhaaaaaayooooooooo

Today: will choose from Notre Dame, Rutgers, California, PIttsburgh and Toledo.

Ogundeji is the No. 39 weak-side defensive end in the country and No. 16 prospect in Michigan from the class of 2016.

Good kid. Think he will be a project though. He is only 215lbs. If he comes, he will be a couple of years before taking the field. I can't imagine he makes first year contributions.

Irishblooded, I think this sometimes is the only real distinction between the elite and guys like Ogundeji. The elite DEs already have sufficient size and strength to project as players their freshmen year, while a guy like Ogundeji has to prove he can gain good weight and contribute one or two years into the program. Hope Ogundeji commits to ND today, but hope even more for one DE and one DT who has the potential to play their freshmen year, similar to what I expect from Tillery this year.

I never doubt a recruit. If they are good enough for D1 schools to be looking at them, then they are vastly superior to any athletic skill I ever had, or will have, or could dream of having. And I do miss the days when a freshman was basically guaranteed to sit a year before contributing until they had the system, size, and mechanics of the college game down. But those days will never be again. And kids like this to me, when they do succeed seem to do it in a bigger way. Ala, Joe Schmidt.

not sure what my 'ignore list posters' are thinking - but I think this kid is a kid with size, athleticism and plays with intensity. He has tools that coaching can develop; I like this prospect.

This is Holtz era style recruit. Comes to school with linebacker athleticism and size, but weights and eating right will turn him into DE size by his sophomore year, but he'll keep the athleticism.

Perse, I like him as well, but are you saying he has the size to play and impact his freshman year? The posts here suggests he is another long lean talented prospect weighing in at 215.

Fr : growing and training
RS Fr year: more lifting, growing and practice;
RS Soph: situational pass rusher
Next 2 years is the period you expect major contributions from him.

Two year plan is basically what Irishblooded was saying. This guys upside is significant, a trait we seem to be seeing a lot this year with our 3* commits. I think Sal stated correctly on another thread that ND has changed their approach and are grabbing high potential three stars, many likely to be bumped up, rather than going all out for the elites, and then be disappointed only to find our plan B guys committed elsewhere. Like to think mission accomplished and we will focus on a few elite DL and try to flip or recruit two.

IF ND successfully recruits OweB then this commit is even better. Play me now-play me later!

Don't worry about telling Pers what I say. It is vastly more important to him to listen to himself than any logic from anyone else. I learned that during the board change over when I spent 2 weeks trying to explain he could change his font size.

After two weeks he clicked on it by accident and couldn't believe he could change his font size.

Tex --If we need this kid to play as a frosh that means - Bonner - Blank - Trumbetti arent good enough . I think we are in good shape having this kid red shirt .

Continually, I keep thinking Bonner is going to excel and reduce some of the angst over lack of a rush DE. Comments from the coaches during Spring ball were really positive. Hope and expect Ade to red shirt.

We have Romeo's bros as well who is a 444444444 star :) Staff will likely close on one more DE kid as well .

Solid class this yr and barring a rash of injuries we go 11-1/ 12-0 and have a super class next yr

believe, this is a good prospect and a welcomed commit; a better prospect than Wallace or Williams last season. You maybe picked the wrong 3* to 'freak out' on.

Trust the staff. Very happy to get the kid. 16 years old. Go Irish.
16 year old - this kid should be in the 2017 recruiting class - if he develops and stays healthy this could turn out to be one great pick up. Go Irish.

The reality is you need to begin with athleticism and a frame to get bigger and stronger.

What happens past that is up to the S&C Program along with the player.

The elite , ready made DE is not coming here------deal with it.

These kids for the most part are in the Southeast and Texas which are extremely hard places for a school like ND to recruit in. Add in that many of these kids are looking at 3 years and off to the league we are not a fit for them.

So you take kids like the 2 DE recruits who have committed-----long , athletic with a big upside.
