Looks like a good one and should have an impact next year.

Does Brey have anyone else interested.? A top 50 player would be nice?

I was looking at that, looks like ND will only take one this cycle. ND should have 3 scholarships with the departures of (Beecham, Vasturia and Torres) maybe 18 has more talent or depth.

I am going to bump this thread as part of my Patriotic duty to promote ND sports but IMO it will be a GREAT day when ND football is KING again.
I do enjoy ND Lacrosse, though.
Now back to DJ Harvey !! Lets hear it knowledgeable basketball fans !!!

Torres has one more year and I believe has already said he's coming back. I know there are a couple good prospects ND is trying to get for 2018 but I think this team will be good again next year IF Bonzi comes back. Right now he has to be their highest rated NBA prospect.

Will Torres play next year? I want him back because he is a great energy booster and can change momentum playing that role. But I expect Mooney and Burns to pass him and Geben. Maybe it is better expressed that if we are to improve, Mooney and Burns need to provide more than Torres and Geben.

P.s. I think Harvey will be in the rotation as a Freshman.

Here's a good article about next years class if you read down a little........It sounds like Nikola Djogo will be fun to watch. They don't make it sound like Harvey will get much time but he was rated pretty high so I hope he is that good. Mooney I think could take a big step up next year and be a starter at some point.

Good read, thanks. If Bonzi comes back and one of the younger guys steps up, we should be back in the thick of things. This year's leaders were solid but quieter guys. Next year with Bonzi and Farrell this team should be more emotional.

I really wonder if Ballis will work with the basketball players? Like to see Rex and Geben get stronger. We got pushed around my W Virginia.

Don't forget Somogyi's article. He focused on the Brey mantra of getting old. https://notredame.rivals.com/news/analysis-notre-dame-men-s-basketball-in-2017-18

I think old next year is Rex, Farrell and Bonzie. But the only one I want to see at 35 minutes a game is Bonzie. Next years team will be hard to limit to a consistent 8 guys all year long.

I don't understand how Harvey is anything less than a 6th man next year. 6'7 240 pound recruits don't grow on trees, especially at Notre Dame. This kid also comes from Dematha where the quality of bball is very high so it won't be a situation like John Mooney where he was playing bad Florida competition. Harvey is one of the few athletes we have that can match up with the ACC elite.

What's "a situation like John Mooney"? I genuinely don't know. Is he not going to be a good player?

A lot of what some people attributed to the redshirt season of Mooney was playing against the level of competition he did in Florida high school may not have prepared him for the level of competition in the ACC. For example it helped Gibbs that he played at Seton Hall Prep in a tougher conference.

I ran into an AAU coach who coached against both Harvey and Jerian Grant. He said Harvey has the higher ceiling coming out of high school and that ND is getting one of the more underrated players he's seen. But he mentioned Grant's improvement from high school to college was unlike any player he can remember.

I've been told that Harvey is more like 6'5-6'6, 205lbs... Certainly will add weight, but I think your measurables are a little generous.

That said, I do expect him to play big minutes next year and be an immediate contributor. I'd love to see the following rotation.

PG: Matt Farrell
G: TJ Gibbs (secondary ballad handler)
G: Rex Pflueger
F: Bonzie Colson
F: Matt Ryan/John Mooney (based on matchup)

Bench
G: DJ Harvey
G: Nick Djogo
F: John Mooney/Matt Ryan
F: Martin Geben
F: Austin Torres

It is odd but Bonzie is my biggest problem in seeing what the starting rotation is. Does he play Gody down low or roam? Can he defend down low? Can he defend the perimeter? He is a constant but depending on the opponent, it changes who we should team him with. He plays down low, I want Ryan at the 4. He roams and I want Burns or Mooney depending on what we need defensively.

Bonzie is a hard guy for the opponent to match up with but he makes it tough for us to get the right crew to team up with him.

My preferred line up is Bonzie, Farrell, Rex, Gibbs and Ryan then substitute freely depending on what the game flow requires.

I really am not sure on what the rotation will be. I think it might be another year where Brey will have to tinker all the way into the ACC schedule.
