Jeff turned down a 5 year 85 million extension last year from the Cubs prior to the trade to the A's. He will be 31 years old prior to the start of the 2016 season and has not had a particularly good year. Did Jeff screw up by turning down the Cub offer? Does anyone think that he will get a better offer this off season as a free agent.
I know that baseball is swimming in money and there have been some awful contracts given out and it is possible that some team might pony up a 5 year 90 million offer. But if I was Jeff and his agent, I might be wishing for a do over last year when they turned down the Cub offer.
