To be fair, Clawson does know Mike Elkos defense better than anyone so it does not surprise me they scored points on us. Regardless, the effort was horrible. Let’s hope this defense just had an off week. I have no doubts that the defense will play better against Miami.

Either that or WF just showed the world how to shred our defense. As you know this is a copy cat league so 7 days from now on prime time we'll see if this wake performance was our defense taking a game off or a legit exposing of our weakness.

The HC himself said the defensive effort was poor and the focus was lacking. He held every member of the defense responsible. Not his exact words but his post game sentiments. The tackling was the poorest showing since the season started. Garbage points against the "D"? Talk to Elko and BK how they feel about garbage points that extended through most of the second half. Possible trap game let down. I noticed the WF Receivers were catching nearly everything, even the plays that were challenged by a defender. Much work to do by Saturday.

Well, that's why I am making it a point to repeat BKs comments from his presser. I disarmed the comments of the sky is falling crowd and put the analysis in the hands of the HC. He was of course happy with the win but not pleased with the drops and the effort of the defense. He said that the defense made it unnecessarily more difficult than it needed to be. I'm 100% positive Elko would agree.

It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t as bad as the yards and numbers show. Our defensive efficiency is still at 6th because garbage time yards when the game was unwinnable are pretty much disregarded.

Who the hell said the sky is falling? If people were calling for the firing of Elko or that the season is over I'd get it
my bad. wasn't specifically referring to this thread but lots of gloom and doom in some others. double digit victories no longer good enough for some.

WF QB has practiced against that defense everyday since he came to college. Our offense stopped answering their scores and they closed the gap. I wouldn't have called off Brandon until five or six minute mark.

You ever think that ND's defense was due for a let down at some point -- if only for a half? Once ND had the game in control, there just did not appear to be that sense of urgency -- but that was due at some point. Glad it happened last week.

Not sure BK and Elko would accept that reasoning as an excuse.

Coaches will never except something like that as an excuse or reason, but sometimes it is the reality. No team is 100% hitting on all cylinders every game. See Bama v Texas A&M.

Didn't sound like BK was having any of it during his post game. Said every member of the defense was guilty. Said the defense made things harder than it needed to be. Mentioned the missed tackles and lack of focus. I think he will use the second half of the WF game as an important teaching moment. This very well may have been a trap game where a let down was inevitable, but this is a different BK and he sounds like excuses won't fly. In no way do I believe this will snowball. Different HC. Different staff. Different attitude.

Man, I feel there are ND fans on here that really don't want ND to be where they're at in the polls.

Does anyone here question Bama's 14-point win over a team that lost to Troy? Hell no - Bama is the biggest, baddest team we have ever seen. But, an 11-point win over WF in a trap game - WF would likely curb-stomp LSU this year - is reason to erase ND's achievements.

I heard Julian Love say in a post game interview that was replayed again today that the defense did not play well against WF.

Not saying they would (and Kelly was a little irked after) -- but, this defense has been playing lights out for a good period -- they were due for a small let down. Just glad it happened this week.
