Good coach but he’s a loud mouth. He’s the Rex Ryan of CFB. Stop talking trash and let your team’s play do the talking. IU was completely outclassed today and outcoached. Google the box score…

Yes, like he was too good for them because they were getting destroyed all over the field. He looked disinterested on the sideline. Saw no interaction with the players.
He's all talk over substance. Indiana probably struggle to win 5 next year.Good coach but he’s a loud mouth. He’s the Rex Ryan of CFB. Stop talking trash and let your team’s play do the talking. IU was completely outclassed today and outcoached. Google the box score…
Bulletin board material means jack shitWhile he may be a very good coach, he has an edge to his personality that comes across as arrogance. On Gameday before the game--why was a head coach taking time away from preparing his team and coaching staff for the game to go on TV?--he was responding to critics about IU not beating any top 25 teams. He noted that when IU beat Nebraska they were ranked 25th and then bragged that IU "kicked their ass." You can bet that will be bulletin board material for the next time IU and Nebraska play. Wasn't very classy on Cignetti's part. I have a feeling Cignetti won't be a popular guy with other coaches in the B1G.
This coming from a guy that bases every opinion on a statistical formula.Bulletin board material means jack shit

I thought the same thing. Why would this coach use time prior to a big game to mouth off like that? While he may be a very good coach, he has an edge to his personality that comes across as arrogance. On Gameday before the game--why was a head coach taking time away from preparing his team and coaching staff for the game to go on TV?--he responded to a question from Herbstreit about IU not beating any top 25 teams. He said, "We don't just beat top-25 teams, we beat the shit out of them." He then noted that when IU beat Nebraska they were ranked 25th and bragged that IU "kicked their ass." You can bet that will be bulletin board material for the next time IU and Nebraska play. Wasn't very classy on Cignetti's part. This poster once again shows how little he knows about competitive sports. "Is Brooklyn still in the league"?Bulletin board material means jack shit
Chase never played football, so he wouldn't know about bulletin board material. This coming from a guy that bases every opinion on a statistical formula.
I think Lou Holtz, Frank Stams and the 1988 team would beg to differ
Chase never played football, so he wouldn't know about bulletin board material.
He was on the Debate Team and there's no such thing in that realm.
He was on the JV team. Never made Varsity.I dunno, Bill. Usually when one is on a debate team, one must possess at least some semblance of logic.
I think it's probably part of his success, and the world at large just has to live with it. You know what I'm saying? You don't turn IU into an 11-1 playoff team by being a shrinking violet. It's possible that you could be all humble and deferential and still did what he did, but not typically, not in a sport like football. So if he's arrogant, that's maybe why he's successful and is part of his success. BK never acted like that, he's not arrogant, even though ND fans falsely claim he is. And he went 12-0 at Cincy and they would have made a 12 team playoff. So of course it can be done. But what IU accomplished was pretty impressive, and I don't think it's a big surprise their coach has a chip on his shoulder. That's how you motivate yourself! While he may be a very good coach, he has an edge to his personality that comes across as arrogance. It’s truly amazing how you can be so wrong, so often !Bulletin board material means jack shit
Have you ever played competitive sports? Whether its impact is real or imagined, disrespecting your opponent is often a sure fire way to motivate them for the game.
Wow. There an IU namefromthepast. I ived in Bloomington in my working days, and you are correct, he was a total dickCignetti reminds me of Tom Crean.
I just don't see long term success for that guy.
There is probably some truth to this. But there is a line between confidence and arrogance, and if you are going to cross that line you had better be able to back up your words or you end up looking really silly. I would say Deion Sanders is supremely confident, but I don't see him coming across as an arrogant person by nature. Geno Auriemma often crosses the line between confidence and arrogance, but his teams are usually able to cash the checks Auriemma is writing, and so he gets away with it.I think it's probably part of his success, and the world at large just has to live with it. Worse…after punting with 11 mins to go and down 17 pts, which sent those equally loud mouth Hoosier fans on their way….he calls TO’s on the last 2 drives and an onsides kick …I like him but talking shit on Game Day was dumb. Saban gave him a bunch of shit after his rant . He is a bit full of himself.
The decision to punt late was laughable. Why not just pull out a white flag and wave it around?
He was throat punched last night!Good coach but he’s a loud mouth. He’s the Rex Ryan of CFB. Stop talking trash and let your team’s play do the talking. IU was completely outclassed today and outcoached. Google the box score…
Not even closeCignetti reminds me of Tom Crean.

I think that is the essence of Marcus Freeman. The fire burns bright in his belly, but he is all about making his guys play up to their potential and making sure they stay in the moment. He is a class act all the way.It is one of those things that is real but hard to quantify. It won't overcome a wide margin, but can when things are tight. Motivation matters to us humans, as we're not bots.
BTW: MF was magnanimous in victory, praising Indiana. He is the last guy who will give the opponent any reason to play out of personal spite.
His debate team had a strong F +.Chase never played football, so he wouldn't know about bulletin board material.
