Some numbers -- scoring offense:

2011 - 29.2
2012 - 25.8
2013 - 27.2
2014 - 32.8
2015 - 34.2
2016 - 30.9

Considering:
  • We now have an experienced (two projected NFL first rounders) o-line
  • WR's ready to have (Tate/Fuller) type breakout years -- ESB and Alize with first/second round NFL potential and Chase, Stephenson also with breakout potential
  • Maybe our best RB in the Kelly era with two very capable backups
The only question mark is at QB -- but also consider that Wimbush has two years in the system and is the highest rated QB of the Kelly era coming out of HS.

The mark to beat is 2014 when Kizer was a red-shirt freshman, but, like Wimbush, he had a stellar o-line support and NFL type talent at WR.

Keys:
Wimbush's play
Chip Long's Offense
Center play -- can Mustipher have a Nick Martin type year?
Right Tackle.

My answer is 'yes' -- I believe we have all the tools this year to be exceptional (2015 or better) on offense.

Thoughts? Am I missing something?

Wimbush is a sack away from an injury. Wouldn't surprise me with all the excitement of a newbie to see an early injury and Ian Book take over. We don't have a Rees to back us up. We are scary raw at QB.

Most teams have very similar situations at QB . Scary though with a running QB . I am sure Wimbush has be educated on when to go out of bounds and to throw it away but when you are on that field anything goes. I would like to see ND run the ball with the backs they have and play action more as opposed to Wimbush becoming a threat on most plays.

Fortunately Wimbush has good speed and is not fragile. He is built like a fullback with a rocket arm.

I like what I hear about Book. I hope he sees the field the first game in relief. I think he can run Long's offense very successfully. I don't like hearing that MVG is getting about as many reps as Book. I would rather load Book up with as many reps as Wimbush can afford.

Long has had success with this offense for awhile. I like what I read about it. The Power Spread excites me although tempo concerns me. It is very good if run properly but could be cosmetic bling bling if not. With a new defense, that is a concern.

If run well, it could rack up a lot of points. I bet Long is very excited about the talent he has to work with. Memphis scored 39 a game last year. I am hoping for 34 a game. 4 TD and 2 FGs.

Good thing we had a great defense in 2012!

Most important state to me is time of possession. Not a fan of the hurry up when you have a great o line

Not a single all american at a skill position. Far too many ? to say the best at anything and Kelly is still in charge.

That depends on if he'll get out of his own way and let the OC call plays.
So you think Sanford or the other guy is a better play caller than Kelly?

Smh

I truely believe this will be the first season Kelly becomes the CEO.
I think he has been too loyal to people he has worked in the past.

I think ND will run a bunch of different sets.
They can go big and tall at all 3 WRs
They can go speed
Great TEs
Love the RB

Can wimbush use all the weapons? I think so and will be in NYC for the heisman

The best weapon better be this OLINE . IF the left side of the line consist of NFL 1st round draft picks and the entire line can play great and consistent then ND will be going to the College football playoff. How many teams can line up from left to right :

Stepherson, Jones , Claypool and St. Brown . With Adams in the backfield . These are 5 potential pro players as well. The oline dominates and 11 wins are in place.

That's one way to look at it, I guess. Every player on the field is one tackle away from an injury. You can't enter the season thinking that way, though.

What stands out the most is the lowest scoring average of his tenure led to the best season of his tenure. Defense wins championships. Let's get our best athletes on defense where instincts are most important. Use scheme to put your lesser athletes in a position for success on offense.

If you score 50, are you guaranteed to win?
If you allow the opposing to team to score 0, are you guaranteed not to lose?
