I've been a "lurker" on this site for years, usually just to read up on info regarding the team, sports, recruiting and good discussion throughout the year when I have time to look.

I never really post(ed) much, simply because I do not have the time to consistently respond, but occasionally read through.

But lately, this board has become an absolute joke. The same people constantly arguing the same points back and forth, whining about coaches, ripping players, ripping each other apart etc etc.

Can we all get back to the main reason we're all on this board, whether it's reading info, chatting about the games/personnel/potentials of our favorite team, and quit trying to one up one another by childish name calling?

We're all on this board for the same reason - our passion for Notre Dame sports.

Can we get back to that? Instead of ripping each other apart, and acting like the sky is falling because of a few bad games?

We should be cheering on these young men, regardless of record, play, or coaching.

The sky isn't falling, and the earth is still spinning on its axis.

End rant.

So you scold us for wanting improvement then finish up your whole rant with ..show improvement.

Makes as much sense as thinking thud ,,which creates horrible defensive habits ,,,
will somehow make good habits.

All I'm saying is that beating each other into the ground is redundant, and obviously isn't making this board much fun anymore.

There hasn't been a thread created in weeks that hasn't ended up being a pissing match between posters over trivial non sense that we cannot control.

Why not just enjoy the sport and cheer our team on?

Also, if you think me scolding posters was the intent of the thread, I can assure you, that's not the case. Just trying to get everyone back on the same page.

I mean damn, looks around the threads on this site, you'd think the apocalypse was coming.

We're all ND fans here.

Irishsports fan, nice try but it won't happen. In fact, you have now set yourself up to be a target. You have to wonder sometimes if there are any adults left on this board but when this place is free and anonymous, the freaks come out in bunches. Most of this is caused by the younger crowd and that's a fact Jack.

What areas of the defense, offense and special teams are you hoping that we show improvement?

On the defensive side I think we can all agree that every area needs to be improved. D line is not stopping the run or getting pressure on the QB. I could deal with having one and not the other but to not have either is brutal. Changes I would make would be to slide Rochelle inside and Tillery to DE. I would also play one of the young guys opposite of Studstill at safety and end the Tranquil project back there. Id go with Elliott.

Linebackers have been decent in my estimation but still want to see them be able to get to the QB on a more consistent basis. Why can't Onawalu get there? Why can't he shed a block to make impact plays? Consistently not being able to make plays is grounds for trying someone else in my opinion.

On offense Id like to see the o line with a bit more toughness and be able to push people around and be able to assert themselves to run the football down peoples throats. If you are suppose to be one of the best o lines (cough cough) in the country then man up and prove it. Pass protection seems fine to me but man I would like to be able to watch them line up and play hard nose we are gonna run this ball down your freakin throat football. Im not sure if the problem is at the point of attack or lineman not being able to get to the second level to make the necessary blocks. Id have to watch film to be able to piece that together.

SP teams issues I feel stem from the issues on defense and that's not being able to tackle. PERIOD. This team can't tackle. Is it because of the new rules where they limit full on hitting at practice? I'm guessing that has something to do with it. If I'm the coach I'm taking every second I have and practicing at full speed, full contact, lets line up and smack each other to bring a toughness to the team and also let these kids get some practice with live tackling. If there are more injuries so be it. the players on the field are not getting it done anyway so if you get hurt next man in and be ready to play physical football. I don't want any kid to get injured but football is a PHYSICAL game and they happen.

I feel football players today just want to show up not go full speed or contact, not have physical practices, and then show up on Saturdays and play. This team needs to toughen up period and that starts on the practice field. Let em loose at each other and toughen each other up.

You can always put a handful of guys on ignore and eliminate 90% of the name calling. It's in vogue to rag on the content of this message board, and it has deteriorated in recent years, but there are a number of quality posters here that are enjoyable to read and reply to if you eliminate those posters that consistently bother you. Appealing for universal withholding of personal attacks on this message board is a non starter IMHO.

I agree wholeheartedly but like the old saying goes "a few, spoil it for all." I hate when the Irish lose just as much as anyone else on this board but I'll be watching and rooting like I do every Saturday in the fall. I just hope our defense shows up. The offense while not exceptional has been really good at times. It just seems we can't put everything together at once and play a complete game in all three phases. Let's hope that changes this weekend.

Go Irish!

There are plenty of areas for improvement. No doubt. All that I am saying is that in my 10or so years just reading these boards, it's completely gone up in flames because of a few (albeit atrocious) games.

The only thing I was aiming to do with this thread is "right the track" in some sorts. There's no need to bash everyone and have the same arguments daily...

Why not focus on some of the positives (promising in my opinion). Our WRs - young, but dependable for the most part. Will get better.

Kizer - don't think much needs to be said beyond cleaning up some small missed throws.

BVG - he's gone, like everyone wanted. Now we wait for the next step.

The list could go on, but my break from work is over ha.

My intent on this thread wasn't to flame / bash / antagonize anyone. I used to love coming to this board and reading the inside scoops on recruiting, game analysis, pros and cons etc etc. But as of late... this place is like a burning fire in the California forest with no one to stop it.

Let's get back to the basics (or shall I say "fundamentals"). We're all diehard ND fans, or we wouldn't be reading and writing on this board daily.

I mean, I'm only 26. Target or not, I want what everyone else wants. A dominating team on the field. The only thing dominant (and it's been sporadic) has been our offensive (passing) numbers.

I hate to play the "can't we all just get along" card, but it's tiring trying to have good convo / read updates on the team when everyone I pissed at each other because of how our favorite team is playing.

And I thoroughly enjoyed ND35's recruiting posts and updates when he posted them (if we're referring to the same person? He was an older gentlemen who was slowly losing his sight, correct?

You can still get the recruiting news you want. The info is out there. Just have to do a little research to find your favorite recruiting sites. There's no magic to it. Not everyone is an annoying problem poster. The ones that are usually take over a topic and that takes care of that. Just know, with 100% certainty, if we were all face to face and known to each other, none of this nonsense would be happening. Guaranteed. Too much false bravado around here when it's all anonymous.

I think you are way off base regarding Onwaulu. Your criticisms may have applied to his performance last year, although he was no more of a liability on defense than anyone else, but this this year he's actually having a pretty good year. Did you know he's tied for the team lead with Rochell in tackles for loss? Did you know he and Morgan are the only players to record a sack this year? He's 4th on the team with tackles behind Morgan, Tranquill, and Coney, and that's about where you'd expect him to be given the position he plays. Everyone on defense has struggled this year but I don't see any reason to single out JO.

Oh I know. I just recall not even a few year back, there were a few insiders that always posted solid info regarding recruiting.

When it comes to face to face - it'd be cool if we all actually hit the same home game and had a rivals tailgate. A few beers, laughs and a good game would cure a lot of the negativity.

According to ndsmc 78 it's not a team. ND is a school first. Team second. Ra, go fight! 6-6.

I blame it all on the senile crowd. Why, tell me why?

You wanna explain now why you want Helton fired or are you going to dodge the question for the rest of your life? For someone living in the quiet comfort and safety of his parent's house, it's a small wonder why you would want a guy with no connection to your life fired. You said it, now justify your statement.

just so we have point of reference for the 'new' guy or the old guy with a new ID:
(you cannot be serious, to think this is a 'new' fan here?

the 'adults' are the posters that agree with you, right? everyone else is a "freak" ?

see below:
"Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance..."

I don't know who is new or old. I'm not that anal about it. The adult posters are the ones who can agree or disagree without a barrage of grade school insults. You know, discuss, debate like grown ups. Which one are you?
