at end of game. Does anyone know what that was all about? Rhule seemed a bit P.O.d

Was wondering the same thing. Rule did look pissed. Cole should focus on his game more, from my perspective, he us under achieving this year. He's a great talent who should be contributing more, especially in coverage and tackling.

My guess he said something like "go back under your rock" or some such epithet. And I agree with the observation that Luke isn't playing his best

No idea either but I'd side with the coach in this situation. We've heard Luke's name way to much this season for how bad he's played.

Don't think he has played bad. Coaches shouldn't be chirping with players.
I mean it's fine if you want to give them the benefit of the doubt but I'll tell you what I've seen thus far: Cole Luke getting beat on trick play after trick play. Cole Luke trashing talking the Clemson fans while his team is down double digits. You can side with him but until I see some contrition, I'm not giving him the benefit of doubt.

HRC08...agree, and the same applies to Russell. Been bugged all season that these guys are talking way too much and underperforming way to often. Important to have swagger in today's sports world for sure, but then back it up. Prefer ND guys that let their play speak for them.

Kizer, Fuller, Jaylon Smith >>> Russell, Luke.

Actually I just watched it again, and it looks like it starts with Rhule given a pat on the backside of CL, so I am assuming it was nothing

Agree. Both Luke and Russell talk way too much for the way they're playing.
If you can back it up - have at it. Chirp all you want. But if you're constantly
getting beat - shut the hell up.

I will add this to be fair - Russell has pretty much sealed the last two Irish victories
with interceptions. Both outstanding plays. Just needs to be more consistent.

I was shocked Kizer didn't get tagged for 15 yards for taunting after both scores.

There is no reason for that kid grow up.

Yea it was hard to tell exactly what happened but it looked like ruhl was way out onto the field then turned to the ref as if to say "hey that player said this to me" and the ref sort of motioned to him as if to say "get back you shouldn't be 15 yards into the field of play." That's interpretation but ruhl was way on the field when the camera focused on the tail end of the play. I'd like Luke never to speak to another coach but ruhl needs to stay the F off the field.

might be blown out of proportion. I saw what diehard saw. and if you see my earlier post I was actually attempting to be sarcastic. I don't think it was a big deal.

Are guys were talking more than usual due to the scrap talk Temple players were throwing out...Rumor is that Temple was full of Trash Talk the whole game...Quite Frankly it was part of the gameplay for Temple. Philly What..

I agree. Had Temple pulled out the victory, I would have fully expected them to surround Kizer and do the flying owl dance around him and I would have hoped he would have stood there and taken it. That almost came back to bite him. No need to mock the other team.

Trash talking is part of the game. As long as it doesn't go overboard there is no harm. You cant expect other teams to trash talk to us and not say anything in return. None of our players go overboard so its fine.

This.

Trash talking is not part of the game never has been,,,in my day coach would pull you out and make you sit on that Golden Helmet although in my day it was leather ........:(

I liked that bird shit Keizer was doing. Cocky, love it

It is usually the older people that hate the trash talking. I am 32 and trash talking as always been part of the game.

I'm 28 and have never liked trash talking. I think its okay if you're trying to get into a guy's head before a play (actually, I still think its dumb), but standing over a guy, or mocking him after you just beat him is cowardly. What if the guy blew you up two plays before but just walked to the huddle, now you're going to talk trash because you happened to win this time? Lame.

That sort of thing is what increases the likelihood of fights/dirty play. Guys want to one up each other or get back at each other. If a guy stands over me or says some BS during the game, and we win, I might make some "friendly" comments to him after the game ("nice game you f'ing bitch"). That's how fights get started.

Cole Luke looked like a complete loser jawing at the Clemson crowd after his pick, and so did Kizer if he was mocking Temple. I doubt Kizer would have liked it had he been injured or played poorly and the Temple players pulled some crap like that.

Agree - no need to trash talk or taunt - let your play do the talking.

Matt Rhule was on Philly sports talk today. Michael Barkann (the host) asked him about the run in with Cole Luke. He said that all of the ND kids were classy and that he had positive interaction with them all game. He mentioned that he was complimenting Cole Luke when the ref came over and yelled at him to get away. He was annoyed with the ref, who took Rhule's actions the wrong way. He once again reiterated that the ND players were classy and that he did not have anything bad to say about any of them.

Trash talking to me just always seems like overcompensating for self doubt.

When you're good, you'll tell everyone. When you're great, they'll tell you.

Kizer stated he wasn't mocking Temple. He is a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan and was doing the Eagles bird dance. The Showtime series backs him up because after his first touchdown he's heard telling a teammate on the sideline, "I've been waiting a long time to do the bird dance in Philly," or something close to that. Nevertheless, he still shouldn't have done it because of how it looked and BK told him as much.

Trash talking and taunting are two completely different things. I do not agree with taunting but there is nothing wrong with trash talking. My favorite basketball player was Gary Payton and he was one of the biggest trash talkers there was. He used it to get into peoples heads and it worked.

Fair enough. I agree.
