The importance of chemistry is a dynamic that is often talked about in CFB. Usually it's discussed in the context of coaches and players or among the players themselves.

This year things are different at ND with the biggest difference being the introduction of the new OC and DC. Everybody everywhere is speculating on how the new coaches will perform.

But isn't one of the BIG questions..............just how well will the new coaches get along with Kelly?

Will Kelly give them a long leash? Short leash? No leash?

Will there be finger pointing? Will Kelly blame the new coaches or players if the team loses?

Will Kelly meddle in what the new coaches are trying to do?

Questions and more questions??? Thoughts?

I have a thought. You commented a while back that both our new coordinators had rough seasons last year. You had to be set straight with the actual numbers. Things aren't always what they seem.

"will Kelly meddle in what the new coaches are trying to do?" Kelly is ultimately responsible for the product on the field. His job is to hire the best coaches he can to do what he wants them to do from a philosophical standpoint. If you like Kelly, it's called guidance. If you don't, I guess you could call it meddling. Either way our offensive philosophy needs to work together with the defense from game plan standpoint. Hugh Freeze stated he could never understand that as an offensive coordinator. As a head coach he began to understand "game management". Something I want to see is how our proposed fast paced offense compliments a questionable defense especially from a depth standpoint. If you will remember, when ND played LSU in the Music City Bowl the Irish slowed the offensive tempo and ran the ball more in an effort to shorten the game and keep the defense off the field. With the depth challenges facing the defense, I wonder what the impact will be on the offensive play calling this year?

bk will NEVER let his coaches coach. He will have his nose in everything and screw things up. He always does, nothing will change.

Coach Kelly needed to meddle a lot more last year instead of listening to the reports of his staff. He fell into the trap of trusting his staff more than his eyes and gut. Here's an article by Eric Hansen of SBT that gives you a glimpse of how the coaches are working together.

That was a thorough article. Kelly comparing the similarities between Grand Valley and ND was interesting.

So you are saying that he is solely responsible for his 230 career victories ? Wow, he must be better than I thought.

If Kelly is smart he should just stay home and watch on TV.

The chemistry between Kelly and Elko can't help but be better than that between Kelly and BVG. BVG's absurdly complicated schemes often left the D confused and flat-footed, with blown coverages galore. Elko has a sterling track record and always gets his D to play tough despite limited personnel. Such was the case last year against FSU. It was a game well into the second half before the Noles radically superior talent took over.

As for the offense, let's hope it's so good that Kelly will have no need to meddle. I can't forget that Kelly was the guy who thought it was wise to throw 30+ times into a hurricane against NC State.

Throwing 30 times into a hurricane is just as bad as not going to the mound to settle down a needlessly upset pitcher.

I don't give a rats a$$ about his wins at gvs, cm, or cinn. I care about what hes done at ND and 59-31 don't cut it.

But but bk is an offensive guru

BK has made questionable decisions since arriving at ND, but wishing bad upon the program is not supportive of our players who have put in the time and effort to succeed. This is all about their success. It's all about them, not BK and certainly not us. I wish the blood, sweat, and tears our guys have put into the program translates to incredible success.

I certainly don't wish bad upon the players or the University. I feel bad the players have to play for this clown.

Apparently it does. He still has the job. Perhaps your uneducated venom is misdirected.

They obviously don't feel that way.. Most have stayed and it appears some of the top high school players in the country would like to play for him also.
