As a non-coach, but a fanatical fan who enjoys the technical elements of the game, critique this philosophy of how Zaire can thrive in the passing game. In addition to play action and then throwing long, quick outs, slants and screens, what other elements of a passing attack should be incorporated into the Zaire playbook for 2015 ?
This is what I would do if I were Kelly or Denbrock. Once it has been established that ND can run the ball and run the ball extremely well, here is an additional element I would like to see plenty of this season. Fake a run to the boundary side and have Zaire bootleg to the field via waggle action and have 2 receivers run crossing routes at different depths and give Zaire a run-pass option. Have a TE to the Field side run a Hook route, then break it to the Field side sideline. Have a WR from the boundary side run a route 10 yards deeper and then cross to the Field side. Have one WR from the Field side run a deep post towards the boundary side. I would like to see this sort of play run at least 5 pr 6 times per game. It is a safe throw and gives Zaire a lot of room to operate if he decides to tuck and run. It would also keep the defense honest on run action for fear of Zaire waggling out to the wide open Field side.
