VT does not and can't recruit like ND. Look at their players in last 10 years.. They are mostly mostly 2 star guys with a few 3 stars sprinkled in

Their defenses were top notch most of the time and they struggled on offensive side of the ball.

Guy like Bud foster with 4 and 5 star on defense can do wonders for ND. Huge upgrade compared to the clown VanG we have now.

What I was correct in what I said. This morning both were saying it was not true but now they have confirm it is. I just needed to get up to date on my info before I posted. My bad.

BVG is a good DC. He's a better NFL DC.

NFL teams as a whole, are bigger faster stronger. When they blitz CBs in the NFL,their closing speed is ridiculous. Much quicker than what college CBs can offer. Same for LBers, safeties etc. His D is good if he has NFL caliber players, across the board but he doesn't. So his schemes at the college level are akin to fitting a round peg into a square hole.

And it's not as easy as to say recruit better. Every position on O and D needs attention at the same rate. 4 yrs used to be able to be counted on but now it may only be 2 yrs and gone, and that has to be wielded into the equation. Then there's injuries, grades need attention, etc.

I was so tired of not seeing the Irish blitz or at least put SOME pressure on a frosh or soph QB that we faced, I liked the hire. Loved it. But now when I see ND blitz, it's effective 1/3 of the time at best. Until and unless CBK can be convinced to focus on D recruits moreso than his needs for his O, BVG will struggle with his talent/schemes.

It's been great to watch next man in on O, but it shows me we recruit to a deeper degree on O than D. So, if that's to be the case, I'd like to see the D plan either be a bit more conservative, or find just a bit more balance recruiting and helping the D.
