Vinny Martinez went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs, and DM Jefferson drove in two runs in a four-run first inning as Notre Dame beat visiting Valparaiso, 7-3, Tuesday in a non-conference college baseball game at Eck Stadium.

TJ Williams, Carter Putz and Jack Penney contributed two hits each for ND.

The Irish (19-15) got seven shutout innings from their bullpen after the Beacons (14-15) chased starter Caden Spivey after two innings. Relievers Sammy Cooper (3-1), Carter Bosch and Ryan Lynch collectively gave up two hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Next up for Notre Dame is a home non-conference matchup with Western Michigan (10-23), Wednesday at 6 p.m. EDT.
