Baptiste

I’m unsure why this would come from an Ole Miss reporter. We need this one if true.

In my view we should be crushing it with these Ohio State grad transfers given Freemans and others connections.

He would be a very important piece. Far more important to our team than a CJ Williams. I hope this rumor is true.

1 yr. Apparently will play big end at Notre Dame and Mills can move inside...per driskel

I am impressed with the Ohio State responses on twitter.. very kind and proper! Baptiste is well liked!!! great pick up!!! He will play full out all season knowing it is a "tryout" for the scouts!!!!

Based on need, I think Baptiste is a much better fit than Vaughan. I’ve said before that I think we are in good shape at Vyper, as I think Botelho will emerge as our three down starter and both Junior and Burnham represent interesting options in the two deep. Actually prefer Burnham excel at Vyper and Junior excels at middle LB. As to Baptiste, I Think he played Ohio St’s version of Vyper, but I think he Can and will play SDE for us, a much greater position of need. This will facilitate moving Mills back inside, where we desperately need his size.

If he's playing SDE then we are NOT moving to a 3-3-5 next year. Ideally in a 3-3-5 you would have like 2 stephon tuitts (his soph year rushing and jr year more push) and louis nix

Mills can kinda be the jr year tuitt, but we don't have nix or the sophmore year tuitt.

Jean-Baptiste, a 6-foot-5, 249-pound edge defender, announced Friday on Twitter his commitment to graduate transfer to Notre Dame. He totaled 19 tackles, four sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss in 2022 as a rotational defensive end behind starter Zach Harrison.

Agreed. Don’t see any possibility of moving to a 3-3-5 with our personnel. We don’t have anything close to a 340 lb nose to eat up blockers, nor the Tuitt’s type edge you reference. I’m still hopeful ( maybe prayerful) that Vernon comes in and competes For plays at SDE.

Sio Nofoagatoto'a from Indiana? Fits the BIG NG role. Grad transfer from Indiana. Not sure if he's good enough then again Smith came from Harvard.

What has been rumored is a move to a multiple front with more 3-3-5 alignments, similar to what mf ran as DC (that most hated). It's similar to the tcu scheme in theory, they played with 2 280lb ends and a 305 nt. Nd has the size to play like that, I just don't think it works against sec size.

I don't like it. But this move doesn't take that off the table.

i'm really curious to see how vernon pans out at ND.

JR/SR film looks terrible, he looks overweight, talks about issues, then comes into AA practices slimmed down looking focused

He has talent, but I think he's probably a bit behind the 8 ball technique wise due to somewhat taking 1-2 years off form really focusing on his craft.

Nothing is off the table with MF and 3 down even if it is completely unsuccessful with our personnel.

You could get away with it somewhat if you had Mills, Rubio, Cross as the 3 down but anything less than that exposes you vs the run so bad.

I think it's a horrible idea...but I think it's coming.

Nice addition to the DL. He had good production last year in a backup role at Ohio State.

This is the season we win it all. God will not allow Jean the Baptiste lose when his teammate is Sam Heisman. Thy will be done.

Who are the big bodies for the interior? Need more. Aiden is the guy we really need to play well in obvious run and short yardage situations, but he’s coming off a an ACL and a lost season. He’s the only guy north of 300 at 325.

At 6’3” and 325, Aiden is the one big body who can make a difference in the middle. But he’s coming off a lost season from an ACL, although he impressed as a freshman. Gabriel looks like he might get north of 300 in good weight by next season. We have good interior players in the 280 range, but we Need another Aiden type, or bigger, to compliment these guys.
