Not such a big deal considering that 6-6 and 5-7 teams go to bowl games.

I wouldn't go so far as zero faith. More like, take it with a grain of salt. A team that starts ranked has a better chance to end the year ranked than does a team that does not start ranked.

You honestly think that an unranked ND, Michigan, Ohio State, etc that runs their schedule undefeated can't make the playoff?

Umm, how do you come up with that? I never wrote anything remotely similar to "teams not ranked in August have no chance to make the playoff".
