My knock on coach Brey has always been he is not a very good recruiter. There is no doubt he can coach, develop players and his strategy to get old has worked . My complaint has been he can't consistently get 4* and the occasionally get a 5*. It seems that has changed. The other things I think he has done more with less compared to Digger. I believe Digger was able to recruit better players for a number of reasons which I'm too tired to go into. I hope this is the beginning of something great. Time will tell.
The knock of Brey should never have been recruiting, ND gets good players, has outstanding player development. The knock on Brey until 3 years ago was his inability to get out of the NCAA first weekend and that he does not play more than 6 guys.
ND will never take one and dones, no matter who the coach is.
I thought I read somewhere, could be wrong. That Brey said he would be open to a one and done if it were the right situation. I don't like these one and done. Makes a mockery of men's bb. Would rather see these kids go to the NBA D league or straight to NBA. Men's Cbb is a joke. Kentucky , Louisville and a few others are not legitimate college bb programs. As is Bama and others in fb. I am almost to the point where I'm done with it all. So frustrating knowing it's so corrupt. But, who am I kidding as long as ND has a fb and mbb team I'll be glued to the TV.
It's not so much that ND won't take one and dones, but one and dones won't consider them, even the ones who qualify. Kentucky's Brandon Knight had a 35 ACT and 4 GP, he could have gone to Harvard, and he didn't give ND a sniff.
I think that is big reason. One and dones have NBA aspirations now. They need to spend 40 hours a week on their game and not school work.
