All the know nothing clowns on this puppet show forum drooling over Michigan and Stanford are CLUELESS!!

Michigan or Stanford wouldn't of crossed midfield vs Alabama. Dual Threat QB, Spread Sets, Tempo, throw it around the yard is the ONLY way to win a Title in the 21st Century It wore down the baddest defense in the land.

The only snap under center all night from either team was the VICTORY formation !!!

Flexbone? I Formation? Full Backs? Bwahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe. However, my guess is if the Alabama big back does't get hurt in the 3rd quarter, bama runs Clemson into the ground during the 4th quarter. That was a huge injury and a turning point in the game.

Agree in large part, but you're absolutely wrong saying there was only one under center snap. Did you miss some of Alabama on offense? The more important aspect of the comments Expressed about Kelly's offense is the lack of a running game in critical short yardage situations. Doesn't have to be under center or Stanford scheme, but the inability to get critical short yardage is legitimate, and both Clemson and Alabama deliver in these situations, albeit differently.

Please spare me...

First thing he was under twice ...once for victory and second to spike the ball.

On a serious note ....

I wouldn't consider Watson a spread QB. He is a pass first , pass second , run third time of QB.

Lastly...

If you insist on calling it spread...

This is the 3rd time in 11 years you could say spread won.

That means 8 of 11 years power football or conventional football won.

One final note...twice Saban has had a dual threat type of QB and he finished both times with a loss.

Want to take a wager on Bama starting QB next season?

So if you want to consider Watson a spread...
Can Newton
Vince Young
....
..
...
..
Exactly....
Power football still reigns supreme.

So sorry.

Congrats to Clemson they deserved the win.

Jalen Hurts -- 100% without a doubt! (unless he gets hurt in pre-season camp!)

Yes is has worked out soooooo well in South Bend for 7 seasons.
The trophy shelf is filling up with all those major Bowl victories.

BTW what is Kelly's record against coach "nobody" Shaw?

Take a look back at Alabama's running back history during their title runs.
All big, strong, fast runners. Monstrous strength and size. Lacy, Richardson, Yeldon, Henry, Scarborough, Harris and the list goes on. They have another stud ready to enroll early for next year too.

They recruit other-worldly, big backs and feed them the rock until their legs fall off.
That and solid defense is Alabama's recipe for success. And it's worked to perfection.

Scarborough doesn't get injured, and Saban is hoisting another trophy last night.

actually Alabama runs a pro style spread. Clemson runs a spread variant that includes power running. Spread is a good offense and Kelly should incorporate some power variants to it.

Actually that is not true. Hurts was under center for 1 play which was a hand off in the 4th quarter.

Just read a thread that stated Clemson gained over 1000 yards against Alabama and a first down advantage of 62 to 29 in these two NC games. Alabama desperately needed their big back to give their defense time off the field in the fourth qtr last night, and his injury was probably a difference maker. Still, have to love the way Clemson fought for that victory.

Hum big backs give defenses time to rest??????
Sound familiar.

Yes, but Clemson also proves you don't need a big back to win or to win time of possession. The first down disparity blows me away as I would have expected Alabama to have more with their emphasis on power running, and Clemson to have less with their emphasis on the pass and big plays.

But coach Kelly offense style has proven you do need a big back to eat he clock and spare the defense.
If ND was able to get the defensive player Clemson gets then coach Kelly's offense would probably have a chance

You can't what if like that.

And you don't forget...every Saban title has been with a conventional attack and drop back passing using a full back too.

Actually the front four of Clemson was every bit as disruptive as Bama.

Hurts was hurried and every single time bailed out of the pocket to his right. Every one.

Disagree. Hurts left the pocket out of lack of composure more than pressure in my opinion, while Watson was sacked several times and hit hard multiple times when passing. Not taking anything away from Clemson's front four as they played a good game and a great fourth qtr., but I think Alabama's starting front four are better. Doesn't really matter as Clemson was the better team last night.

Actually...IMO ... the front four of Clemson , Bama, Washington were the class of college football. It's no coincidence that those were three of four teams in the playoff with the best defensive line.

Remember, if Bama doesn't doesn't score that defensive touchdown against Washington that game was 10-7 for a long long time. Washington just couldn't generate any offense and they didn't help themselves by even showing a deep pass to back the D off a bit.

Watson was sacked several times with most of those coming because he made a pirouette back into the pocket right into a rusher.
Hurts you can sau bailed too soon technically but he was feeling some heat and checked right out of that pocket as he wanted nothing to do with getting hit. Every time he left went to the right and completed one floating pass that was short of the marker. Bama went for it anyways but the rest of his bail out throws all were throw away to the sideline.

Could be, but Hurts has alot of upside especially playing under the big lights as a freshman with so much poise.
There's alot of growing to do still.

Do you think the change at OC had any effect.? Just curious.

I don't think it had a measurable effect. Sark and Kiffin go way back to USC and they are of a like mind as to offense. Most people thought Sark was the better coach with more upside. He was brought onto Alabama's staff to analyze and improve third down offensive production, and so Hurts et al should have an established relationship with him, etc... I think the plan was to limit his challenge and to limit mistakes, thinking the running game and the defense would be enough to win. It probably was if not for the injury. Agree, Hurts played with incredible poise for his age, under the brightest lights, etc... and he will be a handful if he develops his passing game as his running is already elite for the QB position.

No difference. Matter of fact I believe they did a great job of putting the frosh in a great position to succeed. Where failure meant punt, not interception or fumble.

Something else Kelly has a hard time wrangling. Putting his team in the best possible position to succeed.

Both types of systems can succeed. It comes down to talent, gameplan and execution. Michigan and Stanford both had very good seasons this year, despite average QB play.

Good post! Having a dual threat QB is a bonus. However, Bama beat the same offense last year without having a dual threat QB. BW will be the best QB ND has had in over a decade. Dual threat and BIG arm strength.
